Families/Cемьи 01
The first page of a new voting incentive storyline Families/Cемьи is now available! It’s something I’ve been working with – off and on, mostly off – over the last seven or so years. And now it is finally seeing light of day! An origin story for Red Vlad and Comrade Katya… the Russian Soviet superheroes who we’ve only ever previously seen in one very tragic panel…
Despite their seemingly minor cameo to date, they do play a major role in the Magellanverse… and this is their story!
So yes, this is a voting incentive which I will be serialising weekly over on Top Webcomics. I find these extras – apart from being a great opportunity for me to explore other corners of the Magellan sandbox – do help to raise readership of the comic so your vote would not only raise awareness of Magellan but would also be massively appreciated!
New update next Saturday… Red Fever!
Currently riding at #14! Woo! I don’t expect it to last, but it’s cool, eh?
37 at the moment, but I’ll be sure to vote from work when I go in later today.
Oh, man… what are we going to find out from this story? 😨 I have a hunch that LegacyII might be a good alternative title.
38 after my vote, but this is the beginning of the month, so all the stats have reset.
Oh look, I am thinking that these two could be Charisma’s grandparents, well one pair anyway.
Waaaait, isn’t Lieutenant Gagarin the man and Captain Tereshkova the woman? Because it seems the other way around now but unless you go for something like “A boy named Sue” …
Also, well, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valentina_Tereshkova and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuri_Gagarin
heh, yes, the gender swap on those names was intentional. Katya Gagarin and Vladimir Tereshkova are Comrade Katya and Red Vlad.
I assure you that it’s very bad idea. See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Slavic_naming_customs#Grammar
If you want to just reverse the names, it should be Tereshkov and Gagarinova.
Wait. Gagarina.
Note that Valentina Tereshkova’s father is Vladimir Tereshkov and Yuri Gagarin’s mother is Timofeyevna Gagarina.
I mean, sorry if it sounds rude, it’s your comics and your universe, but you are going to have hard time convincing anyone that it was deliberate and not mistake.
These are all very good points, thanks for the info. I’ll change it over the next day or so. That’s the problem when researching for a story, sometimes you don’t know what you’re specifically searching for. Even though I “consulted” with a Russian colleague on a few points related to this story, she never mention that specific detail because I never thought to ask.
Man, that is way deeper knowledge than I have. I just know that Valentina was the first woman to orbit earth, not Sally Ride, and I can pronounce her last name than most other people I know.
The claim for Sally Ride was not that she was the first woman, but that she was the first *American Woman* astronaut. She was the third overall.
