Update schedule: This is the usual Sunday update, if you haven’t seen the extra Wednesday update yet please click on the back/previous button.
Internet 2002: This story is set in 2002 when the internet was a bit more nascent… I found an actual page hit counter from the era to add to Strange But True!
Next update: Wednesday January 30, 2019: Hoping to squeeze in one extra update before the end of the month!
Legacy: New updates weekly from February 1. Voting gives you access to the current page, previous pages (via bit.ly links), raises Magellan’s profile and hopefully scores us a few more readers (oh, and BTW, pages might contain nudity!).
Oh! He’s a broadcaster as well as a receiver?
Still waiting to see if Brunson is a copycat, or if he’s actually been using the MO for a while.
On the one hand, he didn’t seem smart enough for that. On the other hand, we’ve pretty much only seen him in memories or halucinations of Kaycee, who wasn’t in a position to appreciate any cognitive talents he may have possessed.
But yeah, I’m also leaning towards copycat. This staging a suicide (or even spelling “Anaphylaxis”) seem a lot more intricate than his actions in this case.
Thing is, I don’t think it was /staged/ as a suicide. I think the police just didn’t want to admit they had a murder on their hands.
Being smart is a complicated thing. There are so many different kinds of smarts. Someone can be a slow thinker but still be able to come up with clever and elaborate plans if given the time to prepare at their own pace, while someone else can have good instincts for immediate actions but fail in long term planning.
Brunson may or may not be an insane brute, but that doesn’t mean that he can’t be clever.
Annie MIGHT be stretching the connection… The official conclusion could be the correct one (although suicide seems more of a reach to me, given the particulars). But Dianne’s not using her head. The similarities to the older case are still there. She can’t be thinking that the whole thing is staged, and the implied violence from the clues Annie pointed out should be ringing alarm bells.
