Update schedule: Sorry, I was planning on an update for Wednwesday but, while in progress, isn’t finished yet due to RL work schedules. Should be up on Sunday.
Bugle: Yes, he is that powerful a telepath…!
DNA+: The word in the Magellanverse for “mutant”, “meta”, “super”, gifted”, etc!
Next update: Sunday February 10, 2019: Which way will Dianne swing?
Legacy: New updates weekly! Voting gives you access to the current page, previous pages (via bit.ly links), raises Magellan’s profile and hopefully scores us a few more readers (oh, and BTW, pages might contain nudity!).
I like the DNA+ term it’s a neat one.
Yeah. Looks like that’s what Marvel would deem mutants, although I see Bugle’s cast page profile actually refers to him as ‘mutant’. Maybe that’s just because of the extreme physiological changes?
Speaking of whom, Go, Bugle! He really is pretty competent for a guy that I presume hasn’t had any real training. Sign that kid up!
Oh, and about the cast page – Grace, I see you added Vanishing Vanessa back to it. Is the hashtag a cool reminder of her ability, or did you just not get to uploading her pic? I see some of the cadets just have their name or alias in place of a profile pic also. And the Anti-Pres still isn’t represented there. Not to nag, ya know… just saying 😊
Yes, it’s a sad place, that cast page.
One of the other comics I read created a wiki where selected fans maintain things like a cast page. Being added as an editor isn’t an open selection but you need to request it from the author. They had it open for a while but it let spammers in. I think that method worked pretty well for them and it took pressure off of the Creator to also be a maintainer of this other thing that the fans wanted while still being able to maintain editorial control over the content in a non-spoilerific manner. Because the Creator is also the administrator of the wiki remains part of the creators’ IP.
If I had it set up as a wiki that might work, and work well. At the moment it’s just an HTML page.
If you (or one of us) could set up an empty wiki without scrapping the old page, porting the existing information to the wiki could be a communal effort as well.
A “mutate” would probably be a better description I guess. But yeah, compared to most other DNA+ who mostly look human, Bugle is considerably different – physically mutated as well as telepathic.
Yeah, DNA+ is a really neat description for it.
Sounds like Dianne NEVER met a telepath, unless she is leery of them!?
Most normals are leery of telepaths. The idea someone can learn all the dark things bouncing around a person’s head, real or just idle thoughts, upsets a lot of folks.
Telepaths create trust issues. Look at it this way. From several blocks away in the sewer this person can pick up individual thoughts and work through the brain of a Target to retrieve their login credentials so that someone else can use them.
A better way you have done that would be go through somebody else at the organization I doubt this detective is the only one that has access to the database that would be a horrible bottleneck on efficiency. Alternately Bugle could locate someone friendly within the organization and let them make the decision to use their credentials.
The method that goanna is using is called get arrested and go to jail — not Save Kids. Or maybe Save Kids and get arrested and go to jail.
(((Trust Psi Corp)))
(((Psi Corp is your friend)))
A further thought, because my post doesn’t seem to have come up yet, Bugle is like a super-powerful 14 year old. Completely happy to use they’re massive powers and no compunction about the consequences of using them that way. I hope Diane adults-up this discussion rather than taking it on a hormone induced romp through the legal system.
Coincidentally this is a weird argument that could be made for two-factor authentication meaning a thing and a password. You just need to make sure that people keep very close contact of their thing. With 2FA having a telepath pick your password out of your brain won’t do them any good without having the thing at the reader during the login.
That’s a great point – luckily, in 2002 they haven’t figured that stuff out yet!
It’s possible there is at least the additional protection of only computers in the office having that access.
2FA wouldn’t stop a powerful enough telepath anyway, especially if they have relatively weak ethics – just take mental control of the person with 2FA, make them log into the system and then deliver the required info, then erase their memory of having done it. Wonder if Bugle’s that powerful…
I kind of doubt it, ‘coz it seems unlikely that a power level like that would stay off the radar long, but… Who knows? 🤷 Maybe we’ll get another clue about his limits before this arc ends.
I think we have seen absolutely zero instances of telepaths being able to erase memories in this story, so I’m not sure that part is possible. Given someone pregnant Vostok could render the mother unconscious first, then take over their motor control through the baby, then wake them up with the same net result.
I should have said “in Magellanverse” rather than “in this story”, we’ve certainly had more than one story. I do consider the current 2002 story one arc in the overarching big story of Kaycee and Annie which makes that mistake easy for my feeble brain.
Vostok would definitely be the more powerful telepath.
I love Bugle. He’s such a great asset and could be a very powerful hero if he wanted to, but he’s got a personality more like a lonely comic book nerd. Probably would be what I’m like if I had superpowers haha.
