Wow, she’s got the impetuous thing going like Luke does too. Wondering if this turns out like I’d expect 🤔Drop-Bear seems to imply that Oz Magellan didn’t have discretion to register Annie any higher. Why not?
3 is probably an entry-level rank that any just-graduated super would’ve gotten. I’m guessing Level 2 and 1 are intern- or probationary-positions. Level 4 is probably for seasoned supers. Laws probably don’t allow any organization to give any just-grad anything higher than 3 except for those who score Force Magellan (or a branch like Oz Magellan) right off the bat.
Annie appears to be interpreting simple protocol as something personal, though Oz Magellan’s chilly reception of her doesn’t help that perception either. Like it or not, she IS acting a bit like a vigilante, even though her heart is in the right place. We of course know she ends up saving Kaycee… she’s the right person for the job, but the regulations that are supposed to prevent her from acting here are there for a reason, too.
That’s a reasonable assumption. I’d expect Annie (who was TOC) to know such protocols, though that might have been a weakness in her studies?
Like RedZone says, she may know those protocols, but her feelings are getting in the way; she’s taking it as a personal affront to her, and her priority is saving those girls. Unfortunately if she continues down this course she could end up with both the cops and Oz Magellan after her.
I think we can also assume that much like Kaycee, during Annie’s time at Magellan Academy she was frequently involved in stuff that would require level 5. And that is currently a few days ago. Thus not only does she have a deep-seated belief that lives at risk overrides any rule that is not directly involved with protecting more lives, she is used to things mostly working that way. She is also, of course, used to working with people that know her: these aspects, her abilities, her results. I do agree she should’ve handled her side of the conversation better, but I’m not so sure that dealing with prejudiced cops are in the courses at all. Of course she takes it personally when she is accused of staging both the kidnapping and the girl being almost hit by the truck – that is quite a personal attack!
Additionally, Annie going rogue like this damages Oz Magellan’s credibility as it makes it look like they don’t have the supers in the area under control. Also makes them look bad for even giving her level 3. It never occurred to me before that half the job of a regional Force Magellan is to police the region’s supers.
Yeah, we’re definitely looking at a rasher Go!Anna here than we’re used to. Given the jumpcut, she apparently didn’t even slow down when the cops announced they’d put out a warrant for her if she left (I’m not too knowledgable on police procedures, but wouldn’t they then have ordered the cops right outside to arrest her as she left?) And while I didn’t think Luke had a case when he called her conceited, Drop Bear does have a point. Yeah, if I’d taken a job at a nuclear power plant I’d have been given clearance. But if I turned down that job when offered to join up with some questionably legal group that doesn’t mean I’m still entitled to those same clearances.
All this would of course make sense as this is a significantly younger Anna than the one we’re used to. But that does make me wonder why she got the Force Magellan offer in the first place. Her powers aren’t that spectacular, and she doesn’t seem to have her level-headedness yet. So what sold Spencer on her to make the offer in the first place?
All that said, the cops are going to have a hard time pressing charges against Go!Anna for being involved if they’re also insisting this is “just” a ransom kidnapping. Hmm, there’s a thought: Go!Anna could try to bait the cops into making a formerly documented claim that she’s involved in this, at which point the suspected involvment of a super is on-record… making this a case for Oz Magellan. Shame she just pissed them off too, or they could’ve tag-teamed this.
(I assume the rules are formulated such that a super-agent can’t get legally involved in a case when they are the super who is the suspect. But it would be hillarious if that loophole isn’t closed off.)
I think what Spence sees in Annie is the same as in Kaycee: far above average levels of street-smart, for lack of a better term. She simply has a very fast mind for battle and rescue situation strategy, along with really good observational skills. This shows up again and again throughout the story and often proves to be a key ingredient for the success (or failure, when Annie’s hot-headedness or Kaycee’s demons crash the party) of not only isolated situations but also entire missions.
With those pointed ears, Drop-Bear looks kind of like a furry Yoda.
Sense much anger in her she does, yes.
I’m thinking more of a mogwai….
Hah! Yeah, I can see it 😂 She doesn’t look much like a carnivorous koala!
Grace, since there are the regional Force Magellans out there, what does it take to escalate something to the international one? And does the international Force Magellan ever team up with the regional ones?
Hmm, Force Magellan might be the only one with space capability. If so it would make sense to let them handle ET incursions. For more down-to-Earth matters, it’s probably when the regional force requests backup, or if they go incommunicado (like in WFE).
Good question, I wondered about that myself. Is Force Magellan the “elite” team, like a SWAT team to the regular police of the regional teams? Or is this a FBI-kind of deal, where Force Magellan handles the intercontinental problems?
Wow, the profile you did in that last frame is fantastic, Grace. Great page.
Thank you! Sorry it took so long to reply – website issues!
Guess we know why we havent seen drop bear before
WordPress BROKEN??? ARRRGH!!!
Hi folks – I’ve had a massive issue with my WordPress site for the last week now… basically I can’t get into the admin panel to review comments or add posts… nothing. I just get a 500 error from the site. The immediate implication of this is that the next page will be late if I can’t get it sorted in time for the update.
Hopefully a reboot will get things working again, I’ve asked my webhost to oblige. There might be another CPanel or WP related solution but I’m not that savvy to know it, but I’ll do some digging around through Google. The worst case scenario is having to rebuild the site.
Anyway, thought I’d let you know ahead of time… fingers crossed page 29 goes up on time. For updates, check out the Magellan Facebook page…
Thanks, Grace. I was wondering why you hadn’t put any notice in the section under the page. After the problems before, and the lag I kept noticing all this past week, I should have been able to put two and two together 🙄
