Magellan has been around for a number of years now (since March 2004 to be exact), and in that time it has lived in a variety of places, firstly at free webhost Comic Genesis (once known as Keenspace), moving to Graphic Smash and then a mirror at Web Comics Nation. The decline of the latter two motivated me to set up Magellanverse.com where Magellan now calls home. There is a lot of Magellan stuff scattered across the internet, some of it is out of date, incorrect or superseded so I’m now going through the process of updating, correcting and consolidating or deleting it all. This probably won’t concern the majority of readers who might not even know about the existence of those other sites and that material anyway – but if you do, I’m just giving a heads up that it’ll soon be vanishing from the interwebs and, where possible, replaced with redirections to this website. I’ve already done a major upgrade of the About page which should hopefully help make the comic more accessible for newcomers. Expect more interesting stuff to show up soon!
Following on from last week’s blog post – I hope you read the three pages of Crossoverkill written by me but drawn by Sparkling Generation Valkyrie Yuuki artist Kittyhawk. You didn’t? Here they are – 1 – 2 –3 …! Read them now? Great! Kittyhawk loves doing fanservicey pages, it’s in her blood! And while those Crossoverkill pages have censor steam/suds/word baloons and Godiva hair to keep the comic PG, she also produced an unlettered and uncensored version of the second page in the sequence. Kittyhawk has published that page in her sketchbook – Hoodoo as a witch and pagan is very comfortable with her body and I love how Kittyhawk has depicted Hoodoo’s confidence and playfulness (especially in sharp contrast to Mindmistress’ more reserved nature).
After many hours of work on the cover for Lock(e)down I was pretty happy with the end product. Given the response to it, many of you quite liked it too! Reader Thomas asked to have a look at the original artwork for the Lock(e)down cover, so I’ve added it to the Magellan Miscellany section and, as an added bonus, have included the draft as well as some accompanying commentary. It shows the various steps from conception to the final version – check it out here.
One of the great things about having Hoodoo in Crossoverkill is getting to see her drawn by so many talented artists – it’s like having fan art almost every week, and the last few pages are certainly no exception. And also a little bit sexy. OK… very sexy! When Al first suggested the idea of a shower scene in Crossoverkill with Mindmistress and Yuuki (and possibly Hoodoo) some many, many months ago I called dibs on drawing it and, at the time, everyone seemed cool with that. However, after I turned in the script and draft layout, there was some considerable clamouring amongst a few of us for the right to draw these pages (myself included) – it was then that I offered up the suggestion of asking Kittyhawk, who draws Sparkling Generation Valkyrie Yuuki to draw them. It was a long shot because, as most readers of SGVY would know, she is very, very busy – however we have been greatly rewarded by her agreeing to take on these pages. Wow! My storyboard drafts were pretty steamy to begin with but Kittyhawk really hits them out of the park. Beautiful work. Believe it or not, the sequence does include some story development… discussions between Hoodoo and Mindmistress hint towards a significant upcoming moment for Hoodoo within the crossover. Anyway, it was fun to write Hoodoo in this scene, she is normally more reserved when in her costume but in this scene she reveals (er, no pun intended) she has a playful nature as well – clearly she also enjoys teasing the somewhat reserved MM. Check it out, starting from here (for two pages with a third… even steamier… page on Tuesday!).
For those of you keeping score at home… another Crossoverkill page by me. This should have really gone up last Thursday but too much other work, including the last page of Redux, conspired against that deadline. So this hopefully makes up, in a small way, for there being only one Magellan page this week. The keen eyed amongst you may wonder if one of the Doppelganger Gang members introduced today – Salome Froste, a furry porn star in her home reality (yes, really) – is any relation to Jaqi Leffee – the feline fashion design tutor at Magellan from the realm of Utopie Félin. As much as I’d like to say they were from the same dimension, sadly they are not; even a brief appraisal of their… er… anatomy would quickly reveal they are not even the same species of homo felis. Had I been keeping abreast of the matter at the time, a small change to the art would have resolved the issue more favourably!
