Sorry if you’ve been having trouble getting through for the last day or so – there was some kind of technical shenanigans and my web host went and changed the IP of the server leading to all the DNS propagation issues that usually ensue as a result of that course of action. It’s taken until more or less now before I could get back into the site myself but I gather it happened sooner for others. Remember the forum is a good way to keep informed of problems of that nature. I suppose if I was more hip I’d use Twitter or something else instead.
Phew! I never thought I’d see the day, but here it is – Magellan Cast. Thanks to everyone who gave me feedback and corrections. I’m still open for fixes so if you see any mistakes, please let me know – no doubt I’ll keep tinkering with it anyway. This page supersedes all previous attempts, especially with stats and info. It’s extensive with just about every character included, but I fully acknowledge that the listings are very shallow… there could be a lot more info, especially pertaining to some of the key characters such as Kaycee, Charisma, Brelvis, Go!Anna, Wombat-Man etc. Those stats will be forthcoming at some stage, but I’m not sure when exactly… most likely I’ll do it character at a time, starting with those that there is already material written for.
For the moment though I’d like to look at creating a species page, Magellan Island schematic, more history, short character origins, etc. Stay tuned!
You may have noticed the banner links for the Collective of Heroes on the left hand of the site. Magellan was asked to join this initiative which brings together a number of quality superhero webcomics under a group banner – it was an honour to be invited and sounded like a great idea so I took up the offer. This isn’t a Graphic Smash style set-up where various titles are published through a single site; all participating creators keep their comics on their own site. The link bar and CoH home page are the main points of connection and hopefully it means we all get to introduce our readers to some other great action webcomics. The CoH blog will also give me the opportunity to promote Magellan news. A big welcome to any new readers coming in from other CofH comics!
The image of Kaycee in the top corner of this post was drawn specially for the rotating heroes banner image of the CoH site. Here’s a larger version of it. Keen eyed readers might notice that it is a homage of sorts to this Darwyn Cooke art of Wonder Woman (from the back cover of New Frontiers #2).
To be honest I almost never expected to see the day… but the cast page is now in reasonable enough shape to make public. I bet you never expected to see the day either!! I’m calling it a beta version for the moment and asking for anyone who might want to, to cast an eye over it and tell me if they can see any glaring errors – if you do see anything let me know though the comments below. Otherwise, if it all checks out I’ll make it official next weekend.
As you’ll notice it only has the most basic of information – picture, name, alias, basic stats (such as power, nationality/realm, first appearance)… but it is extensive, there are well over 100 characters listed. Once this is settled down I’ll turn my mind to adding more extensive information over time for the main cast as well as additional linkage where appropriate. I did try to do that when I started out with this page but decided it was only going to sidetrack me from working on the main page.
Feedback welcome – Magellan cast page.
Some of you may know I have been repeating Magellan over on Drunk Duck at the rate of a page a day – currently at page 4.23. In large part it was because of the Crossoverkill crossover which is being hosted there and the need to get a DD account so I could help with updates and interact with DD readers. I figured there was no harm in repeating everything to date with a daily schedule. It’s been a good way to look at some older work and reappraise it – generally though I feel it stands the test of time, the art and story still feels consistent.
So anyway I’ve gained a new readership over there and many of you have come across to the Magellanverse site to catch up on the rest of the story. A number of fans have been reading that site even though they’ve already read everything – I try to offer up a bit of new commentary/insight about each page to at least make it worth their while. At some point I will be copying that commentary over to the respective pages on this site.
Drunk Duck was even kind enough to feature Magellan on their front page for a couple of weeks at the end of January. That resulted in a huge spike in readership and interest, so the nod from DD was greatly appreciated. As a featured comic it was also discussed for several minutes at the start of one of their recent Quackcasts – you can listen to it here.
