So just getting back to Crossoverkill, the mega-crossover event featuring Hoodoo of Force Magellan (which of course you’re all reading, right?) – the latest page is by moi and features an apocalyptic rampage which I had quite a lot of fun drawing. If you need a primer for Crossoverkill – essentially cross-dimensional versions of the same individual, the Doppelganger Gang are in the process of capturing the avatars of death from across the pan-dimensions, to what end cannot yet be revealed. Hoodoo and a number of other heroes from other webcomics have formed a loose coalition in an attempt to stop them. And yes, the Doppelgangers don’t look much alike… but that’s half the fun and intentional on the part of the Crossoverkill Crew (ie, the contribution webcartoonists). Anyway, check out this page written and drawn by me – there’ll be another one on Thursday too which, combining this week’s two Magellan pages, makes it four xmung pages in four days… yikes!
Epoch of Force Magellan fame makes a brief cameo (more a passing reference) in the latest installment of Al Schroeder’s Mindmistress where MM discusses invulnerability and those super-powered individuals who are tough to break. Mindmistress is fairly familiar with Epoch’s invulnerability, having tangled with him during the Buying the Stairway to Heaven crossover story which also featured super-brainy Magellan cadet Rochelle Kwan. Anyway, Al always comes up with some very intriguing ideas for his MM stories and this one, about turning a kitty invulnerable, is looking pretty good – check it out.
I’ll be the guest on an upcoming podcast produced by the guys behind Moonhawk Studios – yay! Their weekly live podcasts cover a range of topics including gaming and webcomics. We’ll be talking about Magellan so, if you want to hear the low-down on all things Magellany straight from the horse’s mouth, you should check it out. The broadcast kicks off Wednesday October 27th, around 10.00pm New York time, my bit will probably be after the intro and news and so forth around 10.30 – you can listen live or to the recorded show after it’s finished. There is a chat function which I believe you can use if you want to join in and ask questions about Magellan too. Hopefully I won’t make an ass of myself!
A heads up for a page I’ve done for the superhero webcomic crossover extravaganza otherwise known as Crossoverkill! In case you’ve been living in a cave for the past year (or, at the very least, ignoring all my posts on it), Crossoverkill sees Hoodoo of Force Magellan join with heroes from various other webcomics as they battle the death abducting Doppelganger Gang. Anyway, the various cartoonists of those webcomics share the art duties and most recently I’ve done a page featuring Hoodoo, Mindmistress, Captain Perfect and Lady Knight as they seek to interrogate captured Doppelganger Syko (‘Psycho’) Suki… check it out!
As some readers may know, I’ve been running Magellan over on Druck Duck as a catch-up mirror site of sorts… at a page a day I started updates last year some time and am now homing in on the end of Chapter 4. Having started a DD account as part of my involvement in Crossoverkill I figured rerunning the comic would be a good opportunity to engage with DD readers who had not seen Magellan. It also turned out to be good way to rekindle my Magellan passion following the several month hiatus the comic had been in. Anyway… turns out the mirror site, in addition to having been named as a featured comic earlier this year, has now also been nominated for Best Plot Development in the annual Drunk Duck Awards for 2011. I wasn’t sure if a mirror site would get a look in so it was a nice surprise. Crossoverkill also garnered two nominations – Best Sci-Fi comic and Best Community Project, and two of the other contributing comics – Bad Guy High and Fusion – scored some nods too. Given there are thousands of comics hosted on Drunk Duck we’ve done well! The ‘ceremony’ is in a month or so… stand by for further announcements!
