The Things That Matter 03: Whatever respect Ken Spence might have had for Annie, she might have just lost it…! There is a long – as yet not fully untold – story about how Luke McDonald (aka Wombatman) – a cadet a few years ahead of Annie – fell massively out of favour and was expelled from Magellan Academy following a training accident. Anyway, yes, we’ll be seeing more of him in this story… and I’ll provide more links to his past appearances next week.
Next update: Sunday April 15, 2018: Sydney International Airport.
Legacy: There’s a new voting incentive about the Magellanverse’s speedsters, including the very first… The Streaker. In case you missed it, there was another one during the week. And thank you everyone who has been voting… Magellan has managed to stay in the top 50 for the last week, which is a momentous effort. Next update will be later today April 12, (about 5pm Sydney time/3am NY) keep an eye on the blog or RSS feed. Voting gives you access to the current page, raises Magellan’s profile and hopefully scores us a few more readers (oh, and BTW, pages might contain nudity!).
POW!! Right in the KISSER!
Good page!
Typo in the last panel: “Cannon” not “canon”.
Thanks! Will fix it later today when I get a moment.
Well, the canon might be loose too. We’d need to ask The Master Assassin to be sure, though.
😀
Hey! you are back in the top 50 webcomics again! its time you take your 2 month hiatus and go back to the top 250 where you love to be…
p.s. sorry for the sarcasm
Be careful of what you snark for… 😉
Clearly, Mr. Spence has a low opinion of Luke. Don’t worry, Ken; she would accept the offer a little later, but only after some time-travellers mess up the time line, otherwise, she will die before she has the chance to accept the second time. 🙂
I feel like I’ve seen the moniker “the goddamn Wombatman” before…
I think I’ve used it somewhere else in the comic. Can’t recall where. It’s a riff on All Star Batman & Robin – a DC comic by Frank Miller & Jim Lee – which gained a bit of notoriety for being rather gonzo/batshit crazy. At one point Batman yells “I am the goddamn Batman!”… and it was fairly much ridiculed.
Found it! http://magellanverse.com/coffee/
Ha! Well done, I had totally forgotten about that!
Pretty sure Luke had it as a t-shirt slogan.
That was Ken… that I do remember… 🙂
Aw, Spency. :p You should’ve just told Go!Anna she was your favourite student and what high hopes you had for her.
As easy as it is to loathe Spence, he ended up being kinda right about Luke.
Certainly not in the timeline where Annie dies on that plane, he never hooks up with Vicky and he takes Mongrel in. But certainly yes in this one.
Actually Spence is kinda right about most things, he just… is a bit unkind, has a bad attitude, and is far too unapologetic about his behavior.
Spence has trouble showing his vulnerable side or admitting mistakes, I think.
My theory about the original timeline is that he had been considering having the affair, but Annie’s death shook him out of going through with it and turned him into a better person. Her survival in the current/alternate timeline brought out his worse side. In a way, both Ken and Annie are right about Luke—the original timeline shows he has capacity for great good given the right push, but the current/alternate timeline shows that he leans toward loser-level selfishness on some things by default.
In the original timeline wasn’t Annie killed Guilt over the affair drove him from there
I’m probably going to be coasting through this regular flashback arc, as it’s going to be missing my fave gal Kaycee as the main protagonist. 🙁
Ken hates wombat man because he sees so much of himself in him
