Today’s update jumps around a little – but it’s back to the cadets… as you’ll see the action has skipped ahead a bit. Last we saw Olga, Kaycee and Fatima were contemplating how best to deal with Nadine’s ‘snail problem’ on page 6.108. Seems they sorted that, picked up Sioni on the way and now find themselves dealing with the issues of super brainy Rochelle Kwan. Lest this transition seem too abrupt, some of how they got to this point will be covered over the next few updates.

I’ve had dreams where I’m sitting at an exam and the test is filled with questions I can’t answer. That’s because I can’t read them, they’re all in gibberish in my dreams. I always end up saying screw it! and leave.
I read once that no one can really read in dreams.
That’s not true, I’ve read in every language I speak in my dreams.
What language do you speak in your dreams?
they say a lot of things about dreams that aren’t 100% at face value. my dreams are rarely full motion, they are bits of motion pieced together with memory of events that i don’t really witness. as a result my dreams can span any number of years, i’ve had dreams that occurred over centuries. which is something they say can’t happen, the catch is that the actual real time (at least in the dream) is far less. it also means that i feel pain in my dreams, though all of that happens as memory of pain, so it doesn’t happen in real time. i have never actually read anything in a dream, although i have gained memory of reading something. since everyone’s dream constants (things that are always the same about a dream, from how your mind treats it, to abilities you always have) are different, saying something as general as not being able to read in a dream is probably going to be false in a decent percent of the population. as the statement gets more specific it will achieve a higher rate of success, either by approaching a universal constant, or by removing those that have similar dream constants.
*dream constants are a term used for this discussion only, as i have lumped several separate concepts together.
Rochelle with long hair….. Makes me wonder was she always superintelligent or did something happen to her.
on the cast page, it says she was born with it (dna+ means it is genetic, like a mutant), but it may have only manifested itself at puberty or something.
I was kind of hoping that the other cadets would be wearing their future-self superhero costumes as well. And is Rochelle naturally bald, or does she shave?
I’m guessing that Sioni’s greatest fear is garlic butter. Once Olga introduced him to Nadine’s mindscape, their problems solved each other. 🙂
Well, I don’t think any of them are as certain of their future identity as Kaycee is–Nadine especially. Even if some of them have seen their future selves, that doesn’t make them confident that they will become those selves. If anything, it’s given a lot of them an even bigger image to struggle to live up to. That is only my guess though.
I’m not sure it has anything to do with their (glimpses of) future-selves – it might come down to the fact that unlike the other cadets ‘Olga’ still clings to her memories of actually _being_ a superhero, and Kaycee, as a norm, endeavours under the impression that she has a lot more to prove than her classmates and has thus kept the idea of heroism much more intrinsic to her sense of self, which then manifests in how her astral self appears.
Why is Olga ghostly while the cadets are full-color in-the-dream?
She IS the only telepath here you know.
Possibly because she’s the one actually linking them together, but that’s just a theory. Also a theory, Kwan is probably a lot cuter with hair, making the attention she gets a distraction. Simple answer? Remove it.
Stand by… to be answered next update…
Maybe Olga has worked out how to break people out of the psychic web. Brainspike just crashes in, I’m guessing Olga is a bit more subtle.
Hmm, their plane was snared, but they might still be awake, if they think to bail out before they get too close…
Oh. she got hair. seemly she wants her hair back and thinks about that once in while and sighing sadly.
Wow! Kaycee and Co. have been busy! Has Olga worked out how to free people from the mind trap? I wonder how Brainspike is getting on and will what-ever is controlling everyone notice what is happening?
The best transition would have been: “When Last We Left Our Heroes!”
Old School, baby!
if you don’t know how to do the problem you either have to accept the result, or sit down and work through it in small steps.
