OK – back in action, hope everyone had a great festive season & happy new year. Apart from trying to get my hand back in drawing condition and relaxing a bit after a very hectic 2012, I used the hiatus to work on the story and think you’ll be excited with some of the twists and turns in the pipeline! This current scene is not far from completion – one thing about this underwater PherNian sequence has been how time involved all the pages have been, this current one probably took 20-25 hours all told… double the average time.

It must be an immense challenge to avoid nipples for this long.
Yes… and kind of fun too. Wait til you see Friday’s effort! Although there will also actually be nipples on Friday.
I’m surprised you’re trying to hide them. I know you don’t make any claims that this is a family-friendly strip, and we’ve seen a couple of side nipples before. I know you’ve even done that nudist strip. I do appreciate, though, that the graphic violence, cursing, and sexuality in “Magellan” are not gratuitous, but rather situation-appropriate.
Were it not such an extended sequence and the characters 16-17 years old I might have – however in the context of this genre of comic it might be seen as gratuitous “fan service” even though it wouldn’t be. At any rate, as it’s not something I normally do, I’m actually having a lot of fun with the variations on the censor steam trope (ie censor jewelry, censor bubbles, sensor hand placement, etc)
I worry that Friday’s nipples will just be the same nipples from the last panel of http://magellanverse.com/comics/2012-12-05-squirt.jpg
*is not a fan of hairy nipples*
I find the fact that they can use swords underwater effectively to be rather amazing. How do you forge swords underwater?
That’s what I was wondering.
I’m going to assume magic.
Two methods come to mind, both relying on their amphibious, not amphibian, nature.
1) Go to the surface and trade with the humans for swords optimized for use underwater. Not so likely with a xenophobic race.
2) Go onto land to do the work (smelting, smithy). Building a good sword can take several days, so progress will depend on how often they have to get wet again.
Number 2 is in fact a good possibility. They aren’t limited by time out of water, and maybe there’s a small special, sacred island that a limited few PherNians are privy to for just such purposes.
one loots a Spanish-Gallon,or something else from that era i believe.
That or magic. I see the swords as having certain properties that allow them to be able to move through water as if moving through air, they’d be a bit useless otherwise.
Even then, the guard is using a much more sensible (for underwater use) weapon… a trident. It’s likely the soldiers are given weapons designed for ease of use/fewer drawbacks in order to be more effective against opponents. On the other hand, seeing how easily Olga took off two of that guard’s legs, big points in favor of the magic theory.
Welcome back to the Internet! And awesome page btw.
Welcome back! I hope your hand is better.
I’m happy you are recovered, welcome back. I have personally missed you, missed Magellan. Welcome back!
Mmmmm… Calamari, anyone?
Man… why can guards never be competent? I mean really…
Haha – well, maybe they are in reality… it’s all a memory after all
Olga did say she knew how to use a sword, so …
Thanks for the welcome back everyone… here’s hoping for minimal disruptions to the production schedule from here on in!
w00t, I knew mentioning the baby bump was a good idea!
great page
