Technical difficulties!
Hi there, readers old & new! As many of you may know, there has been some significant tech issues with the site for some weeks. Thought I had it fixed, but NO! it’s fully broken now. Never fear, I did have a full back-up and a rebuild is immanent. Please stand by for a day or two…
Thanks for reading and your patience!
Grace

Does this mean we’ll get 2 comics next week? ๐๐ค
I’m going to keep producing comics during this time, which means I’ll be able to run the pages in fairly swift succession once things are back to normal (or what passes for normal)
Alternatively, you may consider holding them in a buffer to help alleviate us viewers on those instances where you’ll be unable to post in a given week.
And since my previous wishes of good luck don’t seem to have taken, should I instead wish for bad luck and try to get the universe to cooperate with you through reverse psychology?
Psychologically, having a buffer just makes me take it easier than when I’m working on a week to week deadline… sad but true.
Isn’t “taking it easier and not being overly stressed by deadlines” the very purpose of a buffer? I do see what you mean though: next page is already drawn so you take it easy, taking more time to produce pages than it takes to post them, the buffer melts away and then you have to go back into the rhythm of producing one page a week and that can be jarring.
This has always been my problem, I work best to hard deadlines. If Magellan wasn’t a webcomic with some kind of arbitrary self-imposed deadline it wouldn’t have made it past page two (like all my other pre-internet projects). Occasionally I get enough free time AND wind in my sails to pump out more pages as a buffer, but then the wind is gone and the buffer fritters away while I focus on other things. Anyway, I’m still working on the current story while I get this site rebuilt…
So sorry the tech got in the way. We’ll be here when you get it sorted out.
I wish I knew website tech, in addition to all the tech I do know, so that I could help out. On the other hand I have so much stuff to do that I might not have been able to help anyway. The sad fact is that there are not enough hours in the day nor enough days in the week. I guess I’ll just wish you… bad luck, I’m with VileTerror here, let’s try reverse psychology on the powers that be ๐
I missed an important part: thanks a lot for the update!
Oh no! Good luck getting it all back together.
Ooh… That IS progress! Hoping we’ll get everything back soon!
Yay… um… progress?
Oh, well ๐คทโโ๏ธ What’s another week? Whatever it takes to make sure everything works properly!
I hope you saved the previous chapters…!
All artwork is saved. As is most of my own commentary… as for past reader comments though, I have copies but at this point am unsure how to import them. If I can, I will!
Gad! And I was hoping the comments were somehow linked to the comic’s pages ๐ฌ
I’d be surprised if there isn’t a fairly easy way to do it, TBH
I hope so!
For all the luck wishers…stop that. Luck is just preparation applied to chance. Instead I hope for xmung’s continued success, because a backup shows that preparation has been invoked already!
Good Job xmung! The first part of any technology is making backups.
Very true. I was mainly thinking about how any change in the technology you use requires you to learn things. This may be more or less, and new stuff or stuff you’ve seen before (but don’t remember in as great detail as required). The process of learning is not heavily reliant on chance, but how much you have to learn and how much trial and error you need to go through might as well be. I guess it really isn’t though…
What it actually comes down to (I guess) is your experience and whether or not you were able to choose a system with more stability or ended up in a system with more change. Then whether the new stuff is intuitive or not (or at least follows old patterns and standards), and the quality of documentation and support. But when you’re in a system and at the mercy of the programmers, who are at the mercy of the higher-ups, these things seem quite random when the change hits.
But now, progress is being made, which is not due to luck. Indeed this is due to Grace doing a good job! ๐ I too wish Grace continued success in getting the site back to complete!
I notice you also seem to be using this opportunity to upload slightly modified versions of the comic pages. Good on you, Grace! Kind of like when my apartment got flooded and forced the spouse and I to finally throw away a bunch of things we never used. It really sucked; but there was a silver lining in the form of motivation toward a healthy goal.
Also-also: Might want to get the Top Webcomic voting button up sooner rather than later. I know I certainly want to continue with my daily support.
I’m almost sure that button holds nothing fancy, just this link: http://topwebcomics.com/vote/13602
You can bookmark it!
ETA on TWC = Easter
Yes, I decided to sort out a few continuity errors and the like. As well as update copyright, etc! ๐
Any chance of getting a list of those continuity modifications?
While we’re wishing… I’m wishing to get the unmodified pages back for comparison๐๐ค
The Way-Back Machine might be able to help you there!
Nothing significant, the most noticeable would be how I originally drew the Forn vs later depictions (feet/hooves and sclera).
On the bright side, it’s fun revisiting the older comics.
I kind of feel the same too!
You might want to do something about the link to your TopWebComics page so we can continue to vote for you.
Coming back this weekend…
Heh… It’s not clear to me where the best place for comments is, but this seems better than using the comic page’s comment section ๐ค
The short titles can be gotten used to, but for the Archive dropdown search menu, I think the old format (Chapter.Page), possibly followed by the title, is more user friendly. This layout is just temporary? You’ll be moving the comic back to a more prominent place on the page?
For reasons I don’t understand, the view looks fine to me on my Mac [left side bar/comic/right side bar] but on a PC, in Chrome, it’s all effed up. Badly effed up. Everything is everywhere except for where it should be. But only in Chrome as far as I can tell. It’s very disappointing. I’m going to have to contact the plugin/theme developer about this one because I presume there’s a fix.
Go figure, the browser I use the most is the problem ๐ Confirmed that the page looks normal in Edge and Firefox. I’ll use one of those while waiting for a Chrome fix.
Wow, That’s a fast turnaround!๐ฎ Thanks very much!
I’m enjoying reading the earlier archive pages as you repost them. Good luck with your computer issues. Once upon a time music was the universal language. Now it’s system crashes!
I’ve enjoyed Magellan Universe for years. Thank you for all your hard work!
Thank you! ๐
The war continues!
Continuing to wish you all the best during the revivification process, Grace.
However, with the return of City of Heroes . . . well, I’ve been VERY distracted the past month.
Getting there…
Whilst rewarding on a number of levels, this rebuild has been slower and more tedious than anticipated!
For the record, Grace:
You
are
awesome!
(also amazing)
Congratulations on getting your comic pages all back up where they belong! It’s great to have them, and you, back!
Thanks, it took way longer than I expected (or wanted) but I’m mostly back…
