Families/Cемьи 07
The seventh page of a new voting incentive storyline Families/Cемьи is now available!
Sorry it’s a bit late! I’m trying to prioritise everything and keep a buffer, but the main story has precedence so this buffer slipped.
SPOILERS AHEAD – read the update first before reading what I’ve written below.
The Black Suited Dog: It’s probably no surprise that Red Vlad and Comrade Katya have been driven to these lengths over their son. But will they succeed?
By voting you not only get a new page of this story (and access to past pages) but you help raise Magellan’s profile and help potential new readers find us. Once you’re through you’ll also get links to previous pages.
Next update: Sunday April 26… pursuit!!
Despite never having had kids, I can understand Red Vlad’s actions here completely. Really, what did the government think was going to happen when they took the kid away from the parents? It’s not conducive to unquestioning loyalty, is all I’m saying.
An unknown, immune to bullets, flying, super strong assailant, same size and build as Red Vlad, has kidnapped the child !
Obviously, it’s not Red Vlad! He’s dressed completely different!
🤦♂️
Red Vlad and Comrade Katya get dispatched to help in the rescue effort in a town hit by an earthquake, over by the Ural mountains. There, they find a baby crushed in a building collapse, but the parents survived. Comrade Katya hatches a plan.
Katya: Our supervisors suspect that we are behind the abduction of our child. I am sure of it. We can’t keep hiding forever. We could give them this crushed child to throw them off the trail, and give our child to these people to raise.
Vlad: It would be safer than trying to hide the child under the constant scrutiny of those idiots. Where are the parents of this child?
Katya: In the hospital with broken bones.
Vlad: Okay, I will get our child and you go talk with the parent about making the switch. What are their names, anyway?
Katya: Poitr and Anna Epoch.
Nice spin 🙂 It probably won’t be very close to this take, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the elements show up in the story. The shadow government types are probably too smart to be fooled by claims of non-involvement on Vlad’s part.
Hey Grace, I just thought of a question… Why does Vlad have eye cover in his costume, but not Katya?
Just by design. I will admit that since they originally appeared in a single frame cameo waaaay back in 2005 (and never expected to use them again) I didn’t initially put a huge lot of thought or time into their costumes! Despite that, I actually really like their costumes, they feel classic and bold. The eye covering is just a point of difference. 😀
Hmm… to be in pursuit of himself is a clever cover, given how this government behaves it is safe to assume they have some way of tracking his whereabouts – but not with the accuracy of modern day GLONASS. But how will he end this fictitious chase? I can’t come up with any idea whatsoever for that, for some reason.
On another note, Sunday the 28th is not a day that happens this month. Next Sunday is the 26th which I will guess (but not assume, never assume) that you meant, the 28th would be the Tuesday thereafter which would be oddly close to the 1st of May.
Ah, thanks, will fix!
While all the government agents are gonna be focused on Red Vlad, I think the real question they need to ask is where Katya is and what she’s willing to do. Rudyard Kipling once ended a poem with the line “For the female of the species is more deadly than the male.” I feel she might do just about ANYTHING to save her family, even if it means going up against the whole Soviet Union.
I get this odd feeling we’re witnessing the origins of a certain purple suited flying brick.
“It’s a possibility!” 😀
I had the same thought. In the cast page, it does say he is from Russia….
2nd panel, “…no effect!!”
Could also mean that you missed, idiot.
And this action shows that Security has NO regard for the child – what if he DID hit, and it WAS effective, even if the strike didn’t pass through both abductor and infant, the fall could be more deadly than the bullet.
heh, I was thinking both things when drawing this. “I saved the baby from the abductor… but killed it in the process”… oops!
