Families/Cемьи 14
Page 14 of voting incentive story Families/Cемьи is now available! And so is a link to all the previous pages.
SPOILERS AHEAD – read the update first before reading what I’ve written below.
Red Vladd and Comrade Katya make a noble but fateful decision…. even knowing what’s coming next I can’t hardly bear to look!
Many thanks to everyone who has voted this last month… Magellan made it as high as #41 at one point during the last week of May, which I reckon is a sterling effort!
Next update: WEDNESDAY 17 June… vile to the touch.
😔😢 If only there was some way they could have held out, or if the IJF had been notified right away.
I can definitely see the aerodynamic advantage to flying in a horizontal dive posture with closed fists, but that bent knee posture that Katya is using always looks like it going to disrupt the air-flow too much. Okay, I guess that is just me being a physics teacher again, but currently with no students.
I was about to write that I think the image is within a second after takeoff and she just hasn’t straightened her legs out yet. But then I double-checked and found that it was the other leg, so I came up with a better theory: it’s a warm-up exercise for her leg muscles!
It can also be maneuvering – maybe she NEEDS to disrupt the air-flow to change direction or something. It’s not like she would be flying in that position all the time … well, presumably. She wasn’t previously.
I like this – we see birds do this all the time to change direction and velocity.
Yeah, this explanation makes so much sense that it can hardly be wrong. I mean, if she do that without meaning to affect her direction and/or orientation, she’d need to counteract the effect it would have! Ask a skydiver or go to one of those vertical wind tunnels that let you skydive on the ground if you want to know how big the effect is. Maybe it’s kinda small, but I think not.
Unless her flight power includes an ancillary power that is an invisible wind shield, which I assume she would be very thankful for, given her hair. There is a page in Grrl Power where Maxima and Sydney are out flying and discussing such non-flight flight-enabling powers, IIRC.
I thought she was pulling up in preparation for engaging one of the demons.
It’s not like she was obeying the laws of physics to begin with.
Goddammit, THE FEEEEEEELS!
These two have such a tragic story.
Which makes me wonder how well-known their tale is outside of Magellan. Their fate that is, not the f*ckery that happened before.
Their fate is known, what we see in the History section is effectively part of an “educational introduction video” presented by Force Magellan. So that aspect, but not much else is know… but we’ll find out more as Families progresses.
To the final battle…
Shows just how badass Spense and some of the others are if these two, with all their power, get taken down hard, yet the IJF manages to come through with only one casualty, and that one essentially self-inflicted.
While this is true, the IJF worked well as a larger team and had greater knowledge plus different firepower at their disposal – and more of it at long range. For Vlad and Katya, they’re mostly hands on and had no clue what they were getting themselves into.
Absolutely no denying their heroism, though.
It’s the kind of thing that should be more inspiring to people across the world. More than just a footnote in the history books, but a sacrifice on near the same level of Magellan himself, even without knowing some of the little details.
As the writer I have to say I feel quite sad for them now I’ve worked on their story. They only ever had one panel to their name before… having now explored their lives leading up to that single moment has left me feeling a lot of affection for them.
“What If” arc featuring an Alt-timeline where they survived?
I’m sure one of those timelines exist!
