THIS was probably my first hint, honestly. Classic deflection. Future-Kaycee’s reminded of Rochelle and feels the feelings she does, and knowing that Foster senses those emotions, future-Kaycee decides to make it about “everyone else” that was lost, and not just Rochelle.
But as we see later on, Kaycee is incredibly effective at handling her emotions, even in the face of immensities such as millions of deaths . . . until it gets personal.
Granted, the Kaycee in this timeline’s cool conduct may have more to do with her experiences in this story; both Vostik’s manipulations of her mind and her exposure to the consequences of what her grief-turned-anger was capable of leading to.
But, even if I misread all of that . . . this is still the first moment I got the Kaycee/Rochelle romance vibes.
If that was your intent, Grace . . . well done. VERY well done. You sow fertile seeds better than any farmer could dream.
