I feel a little strange posting in the comments section for this page, like I’m polluting the section which should be occupied by old comments… but this seems still more appropriate than the other two comments sections shown 😕
Was the cause of Ken’s injuries ever shown (or alluded to)? Why is medical tech seemingly retarded? They have exo-skeletons, but not highly functional prosthetic limbs?. The platform he uses, Is it the same tech that Brainspike employs?
These are all good questions. I suppose the exo-skeleton is an enhancement to existing limbs not a substitute for those missing. I made a comment (not in the comic so it may not be official cannon) that he lost them in a fight with Sista-Superior. The platform is different – Ken’s uses an anti-grav, Brainspike I think alludes to his being powered by his mind.
Ooh… Sista Superior I can imagine would be a tough match-up for him. I don’t recall Brainspike saying so… was it when he was going all exposition like about why his platform appeared with him on the astral plane? That’s kind of a cool idea, suggesting that the platform incorporates some kind of converter transform telepathic ‘energy’ to something usable for motive force, perhaps telekinsis, or more mundane (heh) anti-gravity like Ken’s. He’s the only one you’ve shown with such a device though, so perhaps it isn’t widely available? Or maybe the other telepaths we know of just don’t have a specific need for it?
A big part is often patient choice.
Spence may simply not -want- “danged robot legs, like some goddamn cyborg!”
Janje Ruff fixes him a dirty glare.
“I said what I said!”
That medical tech conundrum came up for me watching Star Trek: Discovery. I don’t know if you’ve seen it but one character in a hideous accident gets to be a mostly human looking cyborg robot fully able to interact and walk and talk, etc; while another character in a hideous accident gets instead to be a near vegetable in a giant salt shaker on wheels, only able to beep once for yes, twice for no. Must have been a good medical reason for that!!!
Don’t watch ST:D, but the latter sounds like Captain Pike? Yeah, ST is a mix of technologies that don’t necessarily all make sense 🙂 Transporter technology always seemed to me like you should be able to take people apart and put ’em back together better *shrug*
Can you imagine if they tried to fix cybernetic implants onto Pike, only to have them slough off because the cells they are trying to attach them to have the integrity of tapioca? That would be such a horrific scene.
More than likely, if anyone asked, the writers would probably try to technobabble Pike’s chair as required due to the nature of damage caused by the “delta radiation” he was exposed to; one of the symptoms of exposure is cellular disruption (read: cells exploded from within).
Maybe cybernetic augmentation wasn’t possible because his cerebellum and/or peripheral nervous system were too badly damaged. Meanwhile, Airiam was “merely” in a shuttle crash; her nervous system hadn’t suffered cellular disruption, so cybernetic augmentation was possible.
Or something like that, anyway. You know they love their technobabble. I think it’s likely that if the technology had existed back when ST:TOS was created, they might’ve at least equipped Pike’s chair with a thought-to-speech device instead of just a blinking light. Kind of like Stephen Hawking’s speech synthesizer, but more sophisticated.
While both ladies have super-strength, that is all Red has. She doesn’t even have the required secondary power of super-strong bones for the muscles to pull against. That is why she employs an exoskeleton later on when moving debris. Maxima has SO much more.
But at least Red only has to deal with Go!Anna and KayCee Jones. Maxima has to somehow mould Sydney into a model citizen.
Well, a positive note is that as you’re reuploading old pages, you get to put your real name on the old ones.
Also it’s kind of nice to look back on how we got to where we were.
Thanks, it’s probably way more effort than most people think to go through and fix your archive like this, so I just want you to know I appreciate it (and I’m sure so do a bunch of people who won’t leave comments).

If Red has purple hair, she’ll look like a red skinned version of Maxima.
She does have purple hair in later chapters!
