     Lucky enough to get them human colour rods in his eyes I guess…!! Mind you, that’s what he was told… doesn’t mean he actually knows what those colours or zones are – a convenient excuse for why he ended up in the wrong place!

       I mean, with the way you describe the Genetic Blender working, it would likely be that his eyes would receive both the rods and cones from both the human and the dog source material; not necessarily lose either. Although his colour-depth may be reduced, since the ratio of rods-to-cones is now way off balance.
