…Matter 50
Kaycee ain’t afraid of no clowns: As many long time readers would know, this story was never going to end well for Kaycee’s sister Alex.
Next update: Sunday August 11, 2019: Only one update this week. The good news is that after that I will be on vacation for a few weeks, and while I will be away for a part of that time the rest of it will be mostly getting into Magellan and getting the current story finished which will be in September on (or about) page 60 . Stay tuned for details!
So she did witness that, not just told about it later, which helps explain the PTSD symptoms a decade later that a certain alien councillor helps her work through. Really, all he got was a civilian citation and a pardon. Give him Charisma’s silver star; it’s not like she wants it.
It seemed like, as a civilian, the Meritorious Service Medal might have been all he was qualified to receive. Maybe if he actually joins the faculty…
That girl has absolutely no fear. Even if he is done, it has to take some guts after that ordeal.
Pretty glad that the Clown was clothed in this depiction – see 1:30, yikes. Maybe the memories accessed by Mudge were a little distorted, or (ugh) the Clown was indeed unclothed during part of his interaction with the girls before they were buried. PTSD indeed.
Huh… I never really paid attention to the details of Mudge’s hologram in that page before. Could be something there, as we don’t see a lot of what happened during the kidnapping. I note that the scene in 1.30 where Annie is fighting him appears to show him topless, so there may be some filtering through Kaycee’s memories distorting the ‘vision’.
I was re-reading it just to do so, reveling in the availability of all the main stories at last, and the current storyline led me to pay attention when I happened upon that sequence. I am OK if the Great Grace decrees it’s just a minor continuity discrepancy (not like THAT ever happens in superhero comics, after all), but the “iffy memory” thing could be involved. Kind of OK as well with not actually knowing, now that I think about it.
Given thät Kaycee had recurring nightmares about this clown, chances of distorted memory are pretty high… I guess? I’m no expert on brain stuff.
Yeah, over the 15+ years I’ve now been working on this series my own memory and art style has warped around somewhat… but I guess that Kaycee’s young perception and memory of the event is somewhat fluid too (that’s my excuse!)
The changes are always to the better. This series is a masterpiece.
Thanks!
This is the first page where we get to actually see Kaycee’s… <not finding the words> propensity? for, uhm… overly violent vigilantism. She is literally kicking him while he is already down. On the other hand, at this point she is rather young and she just had one of (possibly the) most important person in her life taken away from her. Not that violence is ever the right reaction (until after quickly weighing ones options), but in some cases it is somewhat common.
Ah, Kaycee’s humble beginnings of beating up super villains.
Poor Alex. Poor Kaycee for having had to witness… that. >_<
No, no Kaycee- you can’t jump straight to the K’s like that.
This reminds me of the opening scene from Batman hush
