…Matter 54
Been on vay-cay: I went off to Melbourne this week, it was great but not very conducive to producing comics. I did get to see the stage production of Harry Potter And The Cursed Child which was a great experience, I really enjoyed it! I’m off work for the next few days so will try to catch up on the cartooning tasks.
Al Brunton: This is the first time Go!Anna will refer to Brunton as a lame piece of crap psycho… but not the last!
Next update: Sunday September 1, 2019: Getting to the bottom of the Brunton conundrum!
So wait… there was a public record of his TK? How did that manage to fall through the cracks?
The police have a friendly psychic they can call for assistance, but no telepath? I know one that lives nearby that could help (but probably needs convincing).
The “funny” business seems unlike Freya… I have this image of her as someone careful with her choice of words.
For his TK, well, they weren’t looking for a super with TK, so they might not have connected the dots. I mean, Go!Anna just knew enough to find a pattern, not to know who it was before she caught the perp.
As for Freya, this is also how many years ago? Gives time for Freya to mature a bit. But, she might also be inclined to relax herself a bit talking to Go!Anna. I mean, she has seemed to let her guard down around Bass and Go in the past, so this might be one of those instances.
Grace’s preview blurb hints at an explanation of the deal with Brunton, so I’m eager to see that. My point about ‘fall through the cracks’ is that it makes the surprise twist of him having TK harder to rationalize as hidden to us as readers (who are looking at the events in this storyline from the perspective of the future). Presumably, the characters in the story have been aware of this aspect ever since. Not really a gripe, y’know… just sayin’🙂 The story still works internally, and maybe Grace has a clever idea to tie it all together!
If a known powered individual had fallen off the radar, was Oz Magellan looking into it? Or is that something they would just leave to the AFP?
Oops… I got caught up in my own narrative and forgot to say-
Good point about Freya! It can be attributed to her relative youth in this story, as the thoughtfulness I associate with her may be something that developed more since her graduation from Magellan Academy.
I’m curious about the previous cases. Regardless of his mental state or lack thereof, I’d think his physical presence or opportunity for the other murders could be ruled in or out per instance. That doesn’t rule out weirder explanations like possession-masks for multiple hosts and whatnot, but the depicted events so far, at least, don’t imply such things.
Oh that sounds a lot like each murder was carried out by a pipetted perpetrator.
Keep in mind the Magellanverse has Greenslopes, a school for young people with powers to get a grip on those powers, admittedly it’s only been name dropped on less than a handful of occasions. Whether students go on to be entertainers, athletes, emergency services (Diane, for example!) or superheroes most of them will have passed through Greenslopes for at least a year or more. Stay tuned…
Oh, man… Are you thinking what I’m thinking?
“No, Chief, I’m thinking what I’M thinking!”
🙃😉
Couldn’t it be a case of multiple personality disorder connected to his psychic powers? A mutated brain could probably display all kinds of defects; not all mutations are going to have 100% positive effects.
Actually, in RL, most mutations do nothing. Then you get the harmful ones (cancer is the most famous case) next most frequently and then the very few beneficial ones. Mind you, what is beneficial or not depends on your circumstances. If your mutation is too severe, like preventing you from making an essential protein at the correct time, then your mother will not have even realized she became pregnant for a few hours.
Could someone have mind-controlled him? Seems like an awful lot of effort when there would be simpler, more effective methods. Maybe an experiment in mind-control?
I have a crazy theory: Bugle isn’t as innocent as he seems. He mind-controlled Brunton and orchestrated Annie’s involvement. He can’t come near people because they would see him as a monster (and he cannot stop hearing their thoughts), so he manipulated together a situation that would make Annie his friend and make him look like a hero publicly. Brunton’s later breakout and criminal acts are the result of Bugle permanently altering Brunton’s mind as revenge for Bugle’s coming arrest.
Verrrrry interesting. Totally wrong, but verrrrry interesting… 😉 😀

Future storyline for Magellanverse: WHAT IF?
