Doing a “rescue”…part 3: Kaycee gives a pretty good overview of what she (and we) already know about Ambrosia… and as we also know, Rochelle does get annoyed by fellow cadets who don’t read the new cadet briefings (see page 7.58!). So Kaycee also talks about the scientists that incepted Ambrosia’s counter-temporal power, and how they attempted – through less than pleasant means – to extend the time slip more than sixty seconds. That was covered in a little more detail on page 7.82. It would seem Rochelle has something even more unpleasant in mind for Ambrosia.
Patrons: Over on Patreon page 122 is now up – page 123 is about half drawn… hope to have it up in a day or so.
Next update: Wednesday August 25, 2021: “You want to do what?”
Whoa whoa WHOA!
That escalated hella quickly!
I’m not sure she’s suggesting it so much as predicting it.
I wonder why Rochelle thinks yhat essentially killing Ambrosia will cause her to jump farther back without it killing her. Also wont that cause a time causality?
Also it will cause a massive fork and everyone in this fork will still die. I say that because these people don’t remember her going back. They will also have to send the message through some other method because injuring her that badly is not going to allow her to tell the past what’s happening in the future.
We’ll come back to this 😉
They are sort of running out of options, so … actually, this may be only option they have left. Or will be soon.
That’s tantamount to killing the golden goose Rochelle
“I am horrified. Please explain.”
This.
I have this sneaking suspicion, this involves the remains of Olaf and Ambrosia somehow joining. I can’t see Rochelle sacrificing Ambrosia outright.
Very interesting thought.
It… makes some sense that they didn’t do experiments that actually could kill her at first, though given that Ambrosia said they probably would have killed her if she hadn’t gotten rescued I’m guessing they were working up to it.
Being close to death/having her body mangled beyond repair would be an understandable way to break limits. Survival instinct/fight or flight response/adrenaline is how the body removes the limits on using the body so it wouldn’t be that surprising if it also removed the limits on power use in at least some cases…
It’s a pretty friggin risky thing to try to exploit though!
“What if it doesn’t work?”
“Eh.”
Are you having her say that because Rochelle is Canadian?
If it doesn’t work then they all die. Which is what will happen at that point anyway.
Well, there’s your trolley problem. But, eh, with higher stakes… and I very much doubt that Rochelle can be certain of anything about the outcome. I don’t doubt that Rochelle and Kaycee would do it if they knew about the end of the world. I would not be surprised if they simply don’t let anyone else in on the plan. But… we’ll see. Maybe the plan hinges on Ambrosia being told, but maybe not, maybe past Rochelle will need no more than a dead Ambrosia as a message.
Does anyone else get vibes of Rochelle developing a romantic attachment to Kaycee from this and the previous page?
Just a little?
Anyone?
No, not really. They’re just talking strategy and she’s being supported because she’s dizzy.
I note that she is calling her by her surname, without hesitation, in these two pages. Unlike here http://magellanverse.com/comic/parargdox-22/
So that page to me is the stronger indication. And it is, as far as I can see, still very early days of this development. I get the feeling it might take Rochelle another year or two unless something drastic happens.
Note that while I see it eventually happening, I still count Rochelle out of the Kaycee infatuated as of the mind meld incident – even now, it is feelings from the future.
Looks like it is just you VT… at least, as far as anyone is admitting 🙂
Okay, so Rochelle’s coldly logical mind is Trolley-Car’ing the shit out of this situation. I don’t see the logic in it, myself – all sorts of cruelly painful and fear-of-death-inducing experiments failed to produce any change in interval. Unless Rochelle thinks there is a part of her powers that operates separate from her own awareness. Something separate from her that says, “OK, she doesn’t simply THINK she’s dying, she’s ACTUALLY dying”, that’ll trigger to save her life? I’ve seen nothing to suggest that’s true, so I don’t know why Rochelle would think so.
Maybe Rochelle has read more detailed notes and accounts from the scientists, notably from the inception of Ambrosia’s powers as opposed to just the testing.
Wait…what?
Is that Olga in front of cadet Paz!?
Yes, with Charisma supported between her and Sioni.
Rochelle’s comment in panel 4 is me in those rare meetings where someone has done the reading and prep work, and we can actually just get on with things.
…
Rochelle makes it difficult to like her sometimes. 0_0
