Bugs incoming!!: With the Rarg on their way, Kaycee now has to keep Ambrosia alive long enough for Rochelle to kill her late
Patrons: Over on Patreon page 132 is now up – page 133 soon…
Next update: Sometime this week, October, 2021: Tactical asset #1! My production schedule is getting a bit spotty, due to reasons – hence no midweek update this last week. I’m hoping to fix that but unfortunately no solid promises this week.
That’s a good obfuscation. After all, it can make perfect sense why Kaycee would keep Ambrosia away from the front and it doesn’t reveal the greater underlying reason.
a thought occured to me, at some point for their plan to work, at least if they go through under the current assumption that she can’t slip with anyone else, they have to tell Ambrosia something she shouldn’t know about that would help verify her warning. While her abilities are known, this would be a major power breakthrough and as a first year cadet, she personally isn’t known to those whom can take action, so someone has to tell her something that could authenticate her warning
That’s a clever way to get around the solution I thought of, which is to just open her mind to the nearest telepath. Verification and info dump at the same time.
If the Academy council did not install an emergency notification system known by even the freshest recruits, they did not learn anything from the last two almost-catastrophes on Mag island…
i just did a reread, telepathy is among the powers that are unavailable at this time. If that wasn’t enough Rarg are a telepathic race, so even if that wasn’t the case, the telepath would have to shield and dump the info at the same time, the obvious option whom would know how to do that is someone whom earlier Ambrosia was fan-girling over to her face without realizing it at the beginning of the chapter so it is unclear if she’d be disciplined enough to keep Gola’s secret.
Heh, I meant after she timeslips, the best way to bypass Q&A and undesired delays would be enlist a telepath. Sorry for not making that clear!
Now if only Ambrosia can go from One-Minute Reset Girl to One-Day Reset Girl. That won’t save the idiots over by Jupiter, but it should help save the world from gravitational collapse.
One-Day Reset Girl is venturing pretty close to “Edge of Tomorrow.”
That said, does anyone else want to see Paz eventually take steps toward becoming an equivalent parody of “Angel of Verdun”? Perhaps after being assigned to work with Paradox-man at Magellan Euro, somehow bonded with a powered exoskeleton of possibly corporate ex-Magellan scientist origin.
A one-day reset would be very useful, and generally the average amount of time you’d think would be useful to deal with many situations. There was a one-week reset time travel TV show some 17-19 years ago – titled “7 Days”(!) – lasted three seasons but I only watched half. Interesting premise but I didn’t find the characters very likeable or compelling.
I remember that show, had Anthony Lapaglia (spelling?) in it. Became rather samey after a while, the bane of episodic series; but still an interesting idea.
Maybe that was what Sadako from the Ring really wanted, though. She was just asking if people wanted to watch her favorite show with her, and overreacted in anger when people had the audacity to not respond.
But yeah, I remember that show.
7 days was great, but character development was stuck in the mud. In Groundhog day you at least get to see a character change over time, where in 7 days, they were forever trying to keep Frank locked into this bad boy persona who was always trying to escape or gamble his way to success. And everybody else had to be caricatures of themselves to make the loop “obvious” to any casual/one-time viewers. Good plot device with a Stargate feel to it, but it lacked a series or mythic arc to help tie things together and keep character development moving forward.
One of these days, Ambrosia will get tired of people treating her like a convenient tactical asset, rather than a person.
