I’m OK and not dead: Hi, folks! My apologies for the radio silence… through a combo of various life circumstances and utterly losing track of the time somehow many weeks passed without any progress on the Magellan front. I’ve had a 95% drawn page on the drawing board since Easter, and yet it feels like I last worked on it yesterday. Clearly something broke creatively and I just lost all focus – like on everything, email, comments, whatever. You can thank my friend Miguel who finally blasted me from my dazed and confused state, and then my girlfriend Fiona and another friend Naomi who both gave me an additional kick in the backside to get me reactivated. Anyway, I’m grateful for and appreciate everyone’s concern – but no, I’m not dead. I suspect that if I did die you’d find out much sooner than six weeks. I will update weekly for a couple of weeks to get my momentum back.
MAGELLAN “WHAT”-EVER???: This page syncs up with the second panel of pages 9. The first time I used MAGELLAN FOREVER was during the Lock(e)down chapter several years ago. At the time Black Panther had just come out and Wakanda Forever was a phrase used here and there. Since then it was grown to be a real battlecry for Wakanda… so much so BP2 will be titled Wakanda Forever! lol… can’t help that.
Patrons: Over on Patreon page 154 is now up – page 155 soon…
Next update: May 22, 2022: Tremors…
Phew!!! So glad to have you make contact after the abrupt silence. Not gonna lie, it went on so long I was just slightly alarmed, but it’s wonderful to know it was just a creative slump.
Focusing on the comic proper, gotta admire Paradoximan’s strength of will. Half-dead and barely conscious at this point and he’s still focusing on the mission. No wonder he managed to graduate Magellan.
Well, its really good to hear you are healthy, people were WORRIED.
From the comments i read, a lot of people would have been very happy, just to read the “I’m ok” today, and for once the new page is rather the icing on the top.
You have, over the years provided an amazing story for all of us, even free of charge. Personally I have been reading Magellan since the penguin fell out of the sky, and I have become quite fascinated by the characters you have developed over all this time. I’d be back, even if you needed six months. And hey, the current cliffhanger was very short to the one George R. R. Martin has me on
“Penguin fell out of the sky” is not a phrase I have heard. I must be uncultured. What’s the reference?
I am surprised, you do not know every single magellan page by heart; tsk tsk 😉
I started reading Magellan right around 2.31 or 2.33
http://magellanverse.com/comic/ded/
http://magellanverse.com/comic/nun/
And what a weird first impression that was.
The actual line “…and penguins cant fly” comes from
Found in 2.14 http://magellanverse.com/comic/fly-fly/
And at 2.30 penguin is mentioned as well:
http://magellanverse.com/comic/bam/
It refers to events that unfold in Chapter 2 ‘Great Leap Forward’, starting with some rather cryptic oracular guidance from Go!Anna’s psychic contact Zelda.
I am so so so glad you are alive. I’ve been reading Magellan for 12 years now, it’s followed me through college and my career. If you were dead, I’d mourn both you and the comic, Grace.
I should apologize if I overreacted. Given my aforementioned attachment to this comic, it was hard not to. Also, I only found out a week ago that Al Schroeder has been dead for a year, and that really freaking sucks. He was easily one of the most unique writers of the golden age of webcomics, and he pulled together such good crossovers. I even had a question about the interactions between Rochelle and MM, and he answered right here in this very comment section, about 5-7 years ago now (though those comments are no longer here since the site implosion).
My point… I couldn’t imagine losing two of my favorite webcomic artists in one year
Its interesting you use the term “golden age of webcomics” I have that in my head for a certain set of webcomics, where Magellan is the sole superhero web comic
Magellan definitely fits into the golden age. 2004 is when it started, and while I don’t know how many superhero webcomics there were back then (besides MindMistress), I don’t think there were many
But yeah. For me, golden age of webcomics is anything started roughly 2000-2005. But that is totally arbitrary and not an official definition
So we’re cancelling the search party?
Heyyy welcome back!
On the story: geez reeeeally cutting it close, huh?
Is it gonna be like Paz running in slowmo towards Paradoximan, both revving up their powers, and Rochelle stabbing Paz with some rusty old pipe at the last second?
I think the death that Rochelle is looking for will be provided by spaghettification instead.
Yeah, I think that will help with the jump duration too, time flies at a different rate near an intense gravitational object.
Good to see you still alive and updating.
Applause for the “okay and not dead” bit! Excuse me for caring; people were worried about you, Grace.
As for the strip, good job as usual. Paradoximan’s got some grit. Still focused on getting the job done.
Welcome back, Grace! You literally left on a cliffhanger. Speaking of Tremors. Have you watched the movies?
Yes! Classic!
Know the feeling – specifically, you just made me wonder when Easter was, because it obviously wasn’t two weeks ago as I thought, by the way you are talking… 😛
Anyway, glad you are ok, but you are probably rustier than you thought on the comic front, there’s nothing on Patreon… 😀 (But seriously, how long ago was Easter?)
Since it may interest those on an archive dive, Easter in 2022 was on the 17th of April.
KEERAKKBOOOM!!
SHE IS ALIVE!
MUHAHAHAHAHA!
I hope our doom-mongering and fear in the comments wasn’t demoralizing, Grace.
Thank you for continuing to share your awesome creative works with the world.
It’s great to hear that you have people in your life who love and support you.
So, special thanks to Miguel, Fiona, and Naomi!
Primarily I’m just glad you are okay. Thank you for this update, even though it looks nightmarish.
On behalf of the audience, please thank Miguel, Fiona, and Naomi for said inspiration (boot). applied to aspiration (backside).
And oboy, this is going to get messy/ier.
Okay, not dead – I’m relieved. Yes, I was WORRIED. Maybe I shouldn’t have been.
Utterly losing track of time and Easter seeming like yesterday – oh, I’m far too well acquainted with that. And what it can mean when combined with losing focus on or creativity for a certain task (a couple of people have worried about me before). Please thank Miguel, Fiona and Naomi from us. That is one of those cases where having some great people as close friends and family is pretty much crucial. It is a great relief to hear that you have them, it means you will continue to be okay. We will worry less in the future.
And once again, I’m echoing @VileTerror… might as well continue: a great thank you, dear Grace, for creating and sharing your awesome creation!
