In any case, there are multiple attempts to make the situation better. None of them seem critically important by itself – important is how big difference they make together.
Hrm, if this DOES work, it may be the first time a defensive spell has worked in this entire series!
Weeell, OK, they’ve only tried to cover the island in a defensive spell one other time that we’ve seen, in Lock(e)down, but that failed abysmally. Let’s hope these three have better luck!
It’s nice to know she’s the absolutley only person threatened by the impending Rarg atack and as a hero in training she’s free to have no concerns about anybody else. We’re all happy she’s safe.
Aw, come on. She just meant “I’ve lived through this before and the attack didn’t shut down my powers, so there’s no need for you to expend energy shielding me as well”. Not well phrased, but that’s all.
Three tends to be a powerful number in witchcraft in general, so no matter what the usual range is for a single witch, it should be exponentially bigger than if just one was casting. My guess is it’ll protect everyone within a certain diameter that’s nearby.
Let’s see. I know it is a bit late to change the spell, but maybe a Partis Temporus (Opens a temporary hole in something, like a flying saucer) or Reducto (turn something into little pieces).
That’s for Seeker spells.
Basically, if you want to extend your perceptions of the mundane and astral worlds, you need to reduce the number of physical distractions to your body. Casting the spells while in deprivation tanks would probably be even more effective than just being naked.
As for projecting a shield or other force from your body, how your body feels in a given situation is less impactful.
(Note: Grace is the authority on magic in the Magellanverse, and things may operate differently than I just described.)
Sensory spells seem like they would be more sensitive with less obstruction. Magic senses, may link to the caster’s neural system, in which case exposing skin receptors could increase sensory area. Allowing the entire body into part of magical eye. Individual sitting position seems less efficient than arms outward, not only increasing total collection area, but wider parallax seems like it could be helpful, more so with multiple linked sensors, like a telescope network.
Longer rituals may face issues of stability. Falling over could distort results, like shaking or swinging a camera in the middle of a photo. Stable may be more important.
She says it won’t harm her, but that’s based on knowledge of events before her time slip. Many, many things have changed since her re-arrival, and at this point she shouldn’t be banking on anything she hasn’t minute-slipped away from.
Nothing that that the “returnees” have changed has affected the RARG yet, so there is no reason for her to expect the timing or effects of the VOMMM have changed from when she remembers it being used. If it affected her before, she wouldn’t be back with the memories of being unaffected. I think she is pretty safe from the the VOMMM…but I’m sure she can be surprised in other ways.
Hope this works.

Technically the spell didn’t fail in Locke()down, the casters did.
(e)…
Lock(e)down. Ugh, typing.
“It won’t harm me.”
Famous last words.
Yeah…
Stupid Ambrosia hasn’t read the chapter about “death flags” yet?

Ambrosia is going to end up turned inside-out, or something horrid like that.
Dang… I hope you’re wrong but I’m feeling kinda iffy about her chances of making it to the last page of this arc š
Long run, I’m hoping ‘Instant Replay’ ends up leading Force Magellan.
So, next page, we see her running over to the magical trio, yelling, “Well, that didn’t work. Let me under there!”
So what’s the range for this protective spell they’re casting? Or is it just for their immediate surroundings?
Three tends to be a powerful number in witchcraft in general, so no matter what the usual range is for a single witch, it should be exponentially bigger than if just one was casting. My guess is it’ll protect everyone within a certain diameter that’s nearby.
When shall we three meet again?
…
Well, I can do next Tuesday.
Ill met by moonlight, proud King Rarg.
Raarraagaargarg! {I need to find Ambrosia!}

Um… Bobbi is holding her fists thumbs down. That’s not going to be a problem, is it?
Will this end any differently this time, any takers???
I’d say so. Magelllan is going to be in a very much better position this time through.
I guess they didn’t have time to nude up before casting this one. š

Nah, Hammish just wanted to see naked women. There’s a reason the unicorns like him so much.
