VOMM!: As we previously saw on page 7.110-111 with Der Rote Verteidiger and Contessa Q, the Rarg’s VOMMinator Ray acts as a smaller scale localised depowering weapon. Those two Euro Magellan heroes plummeted to their deaths… lucky for The Hierophant he has Charisma to catch him in the new version of events!
Colour ARRRGH: I had a wonderfully fully coloured page and… let’s just say my computer did something I’ve never seen happen before… and I lost half of it. Ugh. Anyway, because I’m going to be away for a couple of days, here’s the half finished page for now. Will pop up the final version around Tuesday.
Patrons: Page 7.191 is now up on Patreon… 7.192 published soon…
Next update: February 4, 2023: Incoming!
Hopefully Kaycee will think to finish placing the whatsits and Charisma will avoid the vominator…
And the Hierophant? He needs a medic and a panadol.
Since the ray doesn’t seem to actually physically hurt people Casey should stay with Charisma and and block the beam for Charisma. Since KC doesn’t have any powers it won’t affect her! A literal human shield!
That’s kinda messed up but ingenious.
Although the Rarg proooobably have other types of weaponry which doesn’t care about powers…
In which year level do flying bricks get taught how to catch falling squishies safely? Yes, I know Charisma had her hands full and did pretty well, considering.
Honestly, this is the most heroic thing I think we’ve seen Charisma do. It could be REALLY good for her. We’ll have to see how the Hierophant thanks her later, assuming they both survive.
With how long you’ve been sharing Magellan with the internet, Grace, I kind of feel like you’ve been hit by every imaginable computer issue.
Thank you for keeping on keeping on throughout it all, though!
You ain’t wrong! I’ve tried to recreate the problem… to no avail. So whether it was a glitch or something I did wrong I’ll never truly know.
“Don’t… Drop… Them -RB
Wait, did… Charisma just… SAVE someone? Like, heroically? *rubs eyes* Doc told me to lay off the quaaludes…
Kaycee: You saved him, Charisma! I’m so proud of you!
Charisma: *blushing* W-whatever! It – it was an ironic save! Just shows him how much awsomer I am than him, is all! thanks I MEAN YOU ALL SHOULD BE WORSHIPING ME!!
Get the Rod of Plot Devicery, you three!
I do love it when superhero comics show the realism of catching someone out of midair. Don’t get me wrong, it’d kill a lot of fun to have Lois Lane end up getting sliced in half when Superman grabbed her, but I do like the “Gwen Stacy” brand of realism occasionally that shows a fast-falling object getting stopped abruptly will end up with the squishy person seriously hurt. Heirophant may have some lingering Heracles-like toughness already to only end up with the injuries he did.
BTW, if anyone wants to read an interesting take on the subject, there’s a Cloak and Dagger comic from the 80s where the superheroine Dagger is thrown out of a plane. Her partner Cloak catches her in his cloak which is a portal to a neverending dimension of darkness. The problem is that she’s got all the momentum from the fall still going on and they have NO WAY to stop it. The two of them let her fall for a while since there’s no danger of her splatting as long as she’s in the dimension and try to come up with a solution before Cloak comes up with an ingenious idea: he releases her over the ocean a second at a time. Letting her move through the water and then back into the dark dimension allows her momentum to be slowed in a long, steady fashion. Finally, she’s slowed enough where she can land safely in the water without being squished, leaving her extremely bruised, cold, and wet, but at least still alive and in one piece.
Yeah, that was a clever solution. I really liked those 1980s C&D comics
Interesting indeed. I think I need to find some Cloak & Dagger comics to read! I’ve seen them referenced before but this tidbit suddenly puts them in the category of comics that I most enjoy: superhero comics that are clever. Like, you know, Magellan 😀 Thankyou for the tip!
I have now visited my local comic shop, as I’m fortunate enough to have such a thing, but there was bad news to be had: Cloak & Dagger were never translated to Swedish. And the 80s were before the WWW. Nowadays almost everyone here aged between 10 and 40 are fluent enough in English that the language does not create much friction in their enjoyment of their preferred media. But in the before days, that was rare enough that there wasn’t much of a business case for selling English-language comics here. Hence not many made it here at all and my chances of getting hold of Cloak & Dagger comics are pretty slim. 🙁
Actually, I have almost all their comic appearances (regular series from the 80s, the appearances in Spider-Man where they started out in, and even cameos) from their first appearances to about 2010-ish on my laptop in cbr format if you still want them. They were given by a good friend back in the day who was a HUGE Dagger fangirl. Maybe I can send them to you as a zipped file or something of the sort?
I’m seeing a future for Kaycee as the Academy takes a renewed and harder look at training cadets to not only function beyond their powers, but to be prepared for changes in or loss of their powers entirely. I suspect temporary de-powering tech will become a tool of the classroom, and Kaycee will be invited to teach as a subject matter expert down the road.
Good idea, I’m guessing it would take the Academy a long long time to make it reality. But it is about time for some changes in leadership and processes, so maybe not. What I’m really curious and clueless about is whether we’ll actually get to read any stories about such things! Will Annie, Kaycee, Rochelle and Olga (and Tom and Freya I guess) actually bring about some change? How?
I… think you might have missed a bit of shading on this page. 🙂
