VVVOMMM: As another reader put it – VOM is never a good sound in the Magellanverse!
We’re back with Kaycee and Charisma at Largo Castle who we last saw in pages 7.34-35.
Patreon: By the way, should it be a thing that interests you, my Magellan patrons over at Patreon have been getting full previews three updates ahead of schedule. And you can too for as little as $1 a month… 😎
Families/Cемьи: Page 15 is now online. Page 16 will go up on Saturday June 27, about 6pm Sydney/3am New York time. Stay tuned! By voting you not only get a new page of this story but you help raise Magellan’s profile and help potential new readers find us.
Next update: Sunday, June 28, 2020: Blood? Internal injuries?
Getting flashbacks of an old Gilligan’s Island bit…
K – “You can’t fly! It’s impossible!”
C – “I can’t??”
K – “NO!!”
C – “oh…” *plummets*
VOM should be the name of one of those Strange Tales monsters-of-the-month. The Kirby-drawn cover would have the monster with the word balloon “RARG!”, natch 😉
Living in the past 😕
Interesting that the ‘VOM’ effect hurts Charisma, but not Kaycee. The Rarg have an effect that targets only supers? We’ll have to wait and see who else is affected.
The effect doesn’t seem to be purely sonic, since Char isn’t reflexively covering her ears. Her reflexive fetalization in Panel 3 suggests internal pain, like a heart attack or seizure.
It may be that Kaycee was just outside of its range, Charisma just inside. I guess we’ll see on next page!
Charisma knew this could happen, it is why she refused to carry Kaycee in the last page. Such a caring, good friend!
I think you may have misinterpreted something there. A re-reading may be in order. maybe starting when Charisma and Kaycee left the cafeteria.
heh, I think Cu was applying the sarcasm filter…! 😀
So was I, actually, apparently not as well. Mind you, a re-reading of the Magellan stories is rarely a bad idea.
Frequent Magellan re-readings are just what the doctor ordered!
This is bad.
Presumably, anyone with DNA+ was disabled. This just leaves the norms and the aliens for defense.
and witches and mutants?
DNA+ are mutants aren’t they?
Although not all mutants are DNA+ I guess …
Still, if this disabled all DNA+ it’s going to affect Magellan defense a log.
I’m going to have to come up with a way to define between the DNA+ and the mutant individuals. Generally, the latter also have obvious physical non-human like differences (eg Bugle) on top of their ability.
Can’t people be both? Aren’t Bugle and Go!Anna both DNA+ and mutants?
I think the technologically enhanced (Iron Man types) would likely be unaffected as well. Brair and Fatima are likely going to be unharmed too.
Next page:
[ Rochelle and Fatima are rapidly coming out of the women’s change room and running down the hall, as they pass some windows looking out to Castle Largo. ]
[ Sound from outside ] VOM!
Rochelle: [ Suddenly grabs her temples and bends down to her knees ] Arrg!
Fatima: What is not good, now?
Rochelle: Unnnng.
Fatima: [ Picking up Rochelle so she is dangling down from her shoulders ] Be waking up! Now is not sleeping time! Be talking to me!
Rochelle: [Weakly, slowly ] Headache. Stabbing pain.
Fatima: What I do for you?
Rochelle: [ Points out the window ] Stop them. So hard to think. Umm, Find Kaycee. She might not be having problems.
I’m worried about the impact the presumed EMP will have had on Ranger Bill, who I was hoping would fill in for Hoodoo in this story. Remains to be seen just who, besides Rochelle and the ETs, have anything left.
Funny you should say that. I’m working on that exact reveal right now for the next Patreon update…
I just thought of the “VOM” as being similar to the Inception “BWA”. The Rarg are weaponizing Christopher Nolan movie references!
SUPER MASSIVE BASS DROP!
The Rarg aren’t actually genocidal conquerors, they just throw REALLY intense dance parties.
Are the older Voter Incentives still up somewhere? I can’t find “Fast Club”
Yep, they’re all listed in the right sidebar under Tales From The MagellanVerse… Legacy lives here! 🙂
Thank you!
If justice is poetic the Kaycee will once again show up Charisma.
And the Man Who Can will put Go!Anna into his debt.
A thought on Ms. Paz (Ms. Spaz?), if/when she breaks her one-minute barrier, she bounce back to any time in her past.
Ambrosia: [ Waking up ] (Thinking) What the? I can’t see anything, but I guess that just means the lights are off. My body feels weird and moves differently. I am wet and warm but somehow that is comforting. I am underwater but I am not drowning? In fact, I’m not even trying to breathe. I wonder… [ Reaches down to her belly, and feels her active umbilicus ] No! No! No! Okay, calm down. Clearly I went back way too far. Um, let’s see. 4 times 5 is 20. 6 times 8 is 48. The Magna Carta was a British treaty that transferred a lot of the power of the king (King John of Robin Hood fame) to the nobility. The first man on the Moon was Neil Armstrong and the last man on the moon was Gene Cernan, but Harrison Schmitt was the last person to step onto the moon just because of the order of entrance and egress. The 9-11 Attacks occurred on the morning of September 11, 2001, when 4 airplanes were hijacked and flown into 3 buildings and the fourth crashed into a field well short of its target in Washington. So I remember stuff, even some stuff that hasn’t happened yet. Mind you, I do not want my first words to be “Stop the hijacking.” I should just relax and just wait things out, but school is going to be even more freaky that I remember when I know most of stuff they want to teach me already. What was that, an earthquake? I guess Mom is running or something.
[ Suddenly she wakes up in her bed on Magellan Island, remembering her dream ] What the? What a nightmare, or did I really visit that far in the past?
Yeah, that would be quite the nightmare. Mind you, did 9/11 happen in the MagellanVerse…? Maybe not!
Nice nightmare story. On 9/11, I assume Force Magellan would at least have stopped the planes from crashing into the buildings… but as I think about it, an airborne hostage situation is really tricky to deal with even for a team of superpowered heroes against norm perpetrators!
If you think as 9/11 as having its genesis in Afghanistan dating back to the Soviet occupation… in the Magellanverse the Soviet Union collapsed before that occupation.
Not sure why this didn’t strike me earlier, but… the space race must have played out very differently. The Soviet Mars base must have been self-sufficient and self-governing enough to not need the Soviet of earth in 1972. There are some large differences between our history and Magellanverse history, from early on!
How much influence did the IJF (and other supers) wind up having on the events of the Cold War? Did the Chinese Civil War succeed? Was there a Cuban Missile Crisis? A Korean War? If not, what other conflicts popped up in their place? If the IJF prevented the spread of Communism early on on Earth, perhaps the Soviet Union focused more of their efforts on space colonization.
I’m fairly sure there was reference to a unified Korea being the birthplace of one of the students, possibly in Olga’s year. The implication being that the Korean war did take place, but not in the way it did in our world – either the war itself was more conclusive (one way or the other), or the two Koreas have unified in the 50-odd years since the ceasefire.
One way to deal with the 9-11 hijackings: Give the Anti-President supervised parole in return for him talking with the hijackers to convince them to land their planes at airports instead of into buildings, especially if fore-warned by Ms.Paz.
ah yes classic gotta disable all the op heroes magically/scientifically
