The view from Largo Castle: Not the same as a front row seat, but probably a touch safer. Kaycee and Charisma have their own problems, like how to get off their rock, and back to the island.
A shame neither of them thought to pack a full first aid kit into their utility belts, but Kaycee made do with whatever was on hand to patch up Charisma.
Patreon: By the way, should it be a thing that interests you, my Magellan patrons over at Patreon have been getting full previews three updates ahead of schedule. And you can too for as little as $1 a month… 😎
Families/Cемьи: Page 16 is now online. Page 17 will go up um, soon. Stay tuned! By voting you not only get a new page of this story but you help raise Magellan’s profile and help potential new readers find us.
Next update: Wednesday 29 July: Getting off the rock!
It’s incredible that she’s able to move at all under her own power.
It is no surprise, especially given her progress so far and what we saw of Maverick, to see Kaycee grow more and more badass with each story. But here Charisma looks far more badass and far less pop-princess than earlier and it does take me by surprise. But is it actually sudden? Or is this something that happened gradually, but her attitude hindered me from seeing it?
Well, attitude is a big part of being a badass superhero I guess. Actually getting hurt and dealing with that another one. Anyways, at this rate she might earn her first little bit of above baseline respect from me. May mean something to Kaycee as well, she may find something to praise that Charisma will also find it in her to actually be proud of and recognise that praise as sincere. There may be very positive outcomes of this very bad crisis.
Or maybe they can’t reverse the earth exploding and the Magellan earth is no more. In that case, I wonder how much of humanity survives? No one on Magellan island, except maybe Sista Superior, given the superpower nullification. I wonder what the range of that is? Imagine if all survivors from earth are supervillains that were on Locke island. The chroners said that the Rarg attacked the Soviet Mars colony first, but I don’t think that was shown in the current story. Maybe there’s some people on the moon? No moon-base Magellan yet, bdt that doesn’t mean no moon-base… but maybe it means that the potential moon-base doesn’t have defense against defenses against the debris from an earth explosion.
The Rarg attacked the soviets on Mars in the other timeline because of a perceived attack by them Red Planet Reds!
I must admit I am also impressed with Charisma here. She obviously has reserves of strength, both physically and mentally, that does not depend on superpowers.
Pure spite.
Give Charisma her due: she’s tough and stubborn. That can be a huge asset.
Tough, stubborn… and angry. Always angry!
Like the Hulk, only female & worse.
Especially when Jones is around. And hey, look! 🙂
If those uniforms were less form-fitting, they’d be more useful as improvised bandages. Maybe Kaycee should mention that to someone after the crisis is over?
While it wouldn’t surprise me if one of the tertiary functions of the uniforms is as an emergency bandage source, it certainly isn’t a main function. With all the trial and tribulations the students go through in learning to be supers, their uniforms need to stand up with them. Also, in most cases, medical supplies are readily available which would eliminate the need for their use in this manor.
However, the people at Magellan are fans of preparing for ANYTHING (from hard learned lessons, no doubt). As such, I can see the knife and uniform being designed together in such a way to allow the former to cut the latter when not much else would.
Then again, the jagged cuts of the uniforms indicates tearing, not cutting, so I could be way off.
50/50 – some cutting, some tearing! 🙂
Cutting a shirt you’re wearing using a knife sounds difficult. That’ll give you a jagged cut.
Only if the shirt is very, very tight or the knife is ill suited to the task… or you make a mistake. Of course there is a reason professionals carry scissors, not knives, for the purpose of cutting clothing open – it is far, far safer and a lot easier. But a sharp knife with a safe tip, if you have some practice with the knife, would make it quite easy. If the knife is carefully designed with this in mind and you have a lot of practice with the knife, even denim tight enough to be dangerous to the wearer could be cut open with not a scratch on the skin. I would not attempt that with cold, aching or tired fingers though.
Plus, always cut away from the body so you don’t stab yourself! I figure they’ll have to add some fabric scissors to those pouches.
I was assuming that Kaycee took the shirt off, cut it, and then put it back on. Otherwise, how would she cut it all the way around the back?
Verrrrrry flexible…!! 😀
I was thinking she made a cut and then ripped it along that line, but you’re probably right.
“If those uniforms were less form-fitting, they’d be more useful as improvised bandages.” – Dean
True, but they would also be more useful – to an opponent – as grappling holds. There are trade-offs in everything, and someone’s got to decide which is the greater priority.
What will Kaycee and Charisma do upon arriving back on the main island?
Run away from the Rarg? From their viewpoint, this looks like it should be a good time to attack with the mobile infantry. The defenders are scattered, many are killed or injured, the ones that aren’t are tending the casualties or are demoralized, and they have little to no retaliation capability.
I would point out that Kaylee/Mavrick is uniquely suited for this moment as she & Rochelle might be the only two heros (in training) that are still at 100%, so it would be very helpful to have HER back if not Charisma
Run/hobble up the beach after a long swim?
Yeah … they are safer here and can’t really help in their state. Maybe returning to the main island is NOT good idea …
Why does this arc give me vibes similar to the Agents of Shield season where they’re sent to the future with a destroyed Earth…?
