Grimdark origin: This page had its genesis when I considered there were probably many, many unpleasant – but theoretically potential – triggers people might suggest as a way to push Ambrosia across her 60 second time slip barrier. But who would be so horrible to try them all out on her so that we’d know those things wouldn’t work?? Why, evil scientists, of course. Normally the maxim is, “show, don’t tell”… but I figured, not this time.
South American League of Magellan Heroes and Heroines… yes, that is their name. More on them some other time maybe.
Patrons: Over on Patreon page 85 is now up…. 😎
Next update: Wednesday December 2: Yes, back to Wednesday updates… thanks for your patience while I rebuffered. Olaf’s price?
Pretty sure that last word is something like “NO 😠”
and I was thinking her ability would be a source of PTSD (right now and in the future) 🙁
Hope she had a stay in a proper caring foster home before starting as a cadet.
Yeah, sounds like her powers come pre-loaded with PTSD.
… past PTSD don’t protect you from future PTSD, does it?
“We don’t have time to recap” – and yet…
So, Ambrosia’s ability didn’t occur naturally, but was ‘incepted’ through science. Does this lend credence to the idea that Ms. Paz might be the Master Assassin’s mole?
“South American League of Magellan Heroes and Heroines”? Don’t you mean “Liga Sudamericana de Héroes y Heroínas de Magallanes”? (Okay, could be “Liga Sul-Americana de Heróis e Heroínas de Magalhães”, dunno where Cadet Paz is actually from.) Guessing this League isn’t an official Magellan branch, but an independent group that follows Magellan principles? If they were official, they’d probably just be “Magellan Sudamericana” or something.
Ambrosia is from Bolivia. Yes, given South America is a largely a split between Portuguese or Spanish, since she’s speaking English here we get that version of the name.
A mole who could do a “whoops backsies” over trying to assassinate the alpha character and restore their blown cover would be an amazing asset.
I wonder if “incepted” was the right word here, as the usual meaning doesn’t seem to apply. I thought that perhaps ‘activated’ was what was meant, and had gathered that Ambrosia was already carrying the potential for a power which the evil scientists caused to come to fruition.
Nope, I can definitely say “incepted” is more accurate than “activated” in this instance. 😎
incept (third-person singular simple present incepts, present participle incepting, simple past and past participle incepted)
(transitive) To take in or ingest.
(transitive) To begin.
The company was incepted in 2006.
(Britain) To begin a Master of Arts degree at a university.
I don’t think the third definition applies, but the other two are interesting. Was Ambrosia made to swallow a black hole?
I was definitely thinking “to begin”… although the thought of swallowing a mini-temporal-anomaly is intriguing!
I got the impression that she was specifically bred (artificial insemination / inception), or that some compound or viral cocktail was injected in to her during her childhood.
Think latter rather than former…
Thanks for the clarification!
The Dark Lab scientists? Is this an organization or just a generic name for secretive evil scientists? Reminds me of the Black Lab from Astro City which did similar stuff.
Rochelle’s using a generic label in this instance…
Olaf next week?
Cool!
As promised, I shall attempt to feed some more Olaf backstory info through the comments section.
Grace; I’ve drudged up the old emails. Did you want me to resend them to you? Was there anything you would prefer I don’t discuss?
Yes, please send as one document if that’s okay. I don’t think there are any limits on discussion 😀
Email sent!
Rochelle should know that recounting origin stories is an important bonding technique among superheroes.
… did those evil scientist took into account that if they DO succeed in making her time ability more powerful, she will probably be able to use it to kill them all?
🤷♂️ It didn’t matter in the end, though it sure seems like the sort of thing you wouldn’t overlook.
She could, but then he’d just ask it “again” later.
