I still have faith that he is trying deep down to balance being there for his little girl, but just isn’t able to always make the best of calls. Hero work is hard to balance being a dad with.
It’s this kind of stuff that inspired the “Superman Grounded” story arc. Then again, if it was because of a child of his it would have made a lot more sense.
