While working on the seemingly impossible to fully update Cast Page (it’s almost there, honest!) I got to thinking about the older, non-cadet characters who were also listed as having completed a cadetship at Magellan Academy. Most of the ones we’ve seen so far are current heroes or faculty. When I was originally putting the cast page together I admit that I was sometimes a bit arbitrary about the years those characters were cadets, and that has landed me in some continuity conundrums here and there which I need to fix. Anyway, I got to thinking about which former cadets were in the same year and compiled a list. This will come in handy for an upcoming voting incentives story featuring Epoch… if it interests you, read on…!
Another quick update on my creative endeavours. I have been working away on the next Magellan story with a fair bit of gusto and excitement… currently have the cover and fifty pages drafted. The story will probably weigh in at 150-200 pages so I’m at least a quarter of the way through the drafting. I’m also starting on the line art, with the colour and lettering to follow in the next week or two.
Here’s the B&W art of the draft frame I shared a few weeks ago.
Providing things continue to flow creatively I’m hoping to launch the next chapter in mid January, at two updates a week. Stay tuned!
Hi folks! Thank you so much for your kind wishes on the passing of my father. It has been a difficult and sad time, but things feel like they are slowly returning to the “new normal”.
Just an update on creative endeavours. I have been working on the next Magellan story… name to be revealed soon… and currently have ten pages fully drafted and another 15 or so roughly scripted – a draft panel from page one, above. It will be taking place in Kaycee’s third year at the Academy and I’m pretty excited by some of the crazy shit I’m brining to this particular tale… (spoiler hint… aliens)! More news on likely start date in about two weeks.
By the way, I am also working on a new voting incentive story (more on that soon too) and also on restoring the sections of the site during The Great Meltdown of 2019… including an updated cast page.
It is with much sadness that I advise that my father, Noel, passed away last Sunday. As many readers would have known via my notes with recent Magellan updates, he hasn’t been well for a couple of months.
He had a form of cancer that was both fast acting and aggressive. We learned of his condition not that long ago, and within eight weeks he succumbed to the damage it was wreaking inside his brain and elsewhere. He was a great father and I am so sad he has passed.
The funeral was yesterday, and I believe we gave the old man a really nice send off and honoured his legacy well. Prior to his retirement, he worked in banking – an industry which I know these days is rightfully maligned for its practices – but he was certainly never part of that; moreover he was greatly involved in volunteering for the community, during both his working life and even more so in retirement.
Goodbye, Dad, I love you and I miss you.
As my brother and I are will executors I’ll be a bit involved in other duties for some weeks to come, so I will be taking a short break from producing Magellan updates, I am however crafting the next story and the next voting incentive… both will be pretty awesome (I hope!). More news soon.
Magellan been given a fantastic write up in Reaktor – an Estonian sci-fi blog/mag!
If, like me, your grasp of the Estonian language is a little rusty (or non-existent) then Google Translate will produce a pretty readable English version (not sure about translations into other languages). That said, I’m not sure if the translation of “telepaatiline kosmoseviburlane Vostok” into “Vostok, the telepathic space-whore” is 100% accurate? 😀
