PaRARGdox 150
Watch where you FAMP: Well… it had been at least three pages since I horribly killed someone… I guess it couldn’t have lasted much longer… right? Sorry, Padma! Better hope Paradoximan and Rochelle are successful, huh? We saw Padma famping some Rarg into sections of buildings, so it definitely is a thing that can happen…
By the way, panels 3 and 4 reveal the other side of the conversation Go was having with Twilight of Magellan USA on page 7.09.
Back in the saddle: Hi, folks! Phew, I’m still kicking! As predicted with the last update, March was a nutso month. Lots of travel for my day job… several thousand kilometers all over my home state of New South Wales with not much down time. Anyway, I was still working on Magellan where I could… and here is the next update, yay! It’s great to be back! It’ll hopefully be a few months at least before my job interferes with comic output to such a degree again..
Patrons: Over on Patreon page 154 is now up – page 155 soon…
Next update: April 2 or 3, 2022: Well, that’s unfortunate!
-PATION!
I’m sure she’s fine.
Ms. Kwan has a strong ability at emotional compartmentalization, so her PTSD symptoms should be minimal. As for anyone else in that room, not so much.
Well, we’re definitely running concurrently to the earlier pages now…
The trench Magellan is holed up in is the result of the euro-magellan’s jet “emergency landing” isn’t it? So at least Rochelle and Paradoximan are close… But Paradoximan was already in a bad shape and that was a rough teleport.
I don’t like the way he’s hunched over in that last panel…
Could be worse.
Could be Hair’Port…
On the morbid optimism side, at least this was probably one of the least-painful deaths for anyone over the course of the story. I imagine death by telefrag is pretty much instantaneous.
I literally gasped out “oh my GOD” at the last panel. Good (if gross) job!
Good Lord! *choke* #ECComics
…Ouch
That was unexpectedly brutal.
Think they can remove that stain ?
If it’s real leather š¬ But it’s probably not.
Try lemon juice
That must have hurt…for all 2 seconds.
Good to have you back! And to be near the end of the massacre. Maybe less so to be near the obliteration of the planet, but we’ll see… this is finally about to be interesting. And after that I will have an interesting re-read.
and so…target date again missed
It happens. Grace has a lot going on in her life.
Something may be wrong with grace, god forbid. Patreon is still at page 154 which was posted nearly 3 weeks ago. Then again page 153 was posted a month before that at end of February. Maybe work has not released its relentless grip yet as Grace had hoped. Still worried though.
soon month late and over month since we last heard of author, gotta wonder if author is alive
Grace, I know this is a large and possibly even unwieldy cast, but surely there are better ways to pare it down than a wholesale massacre.
I can’t think of any better way to pare down a super comic, unfortunately. The only other mechanic for this comic would be mass scholastic failures.
Maybe just focus tighter on one or two characters? Or a timeskip to after graduation? Not sure how much better that is, especially if Wolfgang is watching and then would be able to identify the alpha š But there sure are more ways to do it than one or two.
I’ve been reading this so long that my bookmark has Grace’s deadname, and this worries me. The last time we had this long a hiatus was when she was transitioning. I mean a hiatus without warning, we have had longer hiatuses in the past, but we had a warning about them mentioning things like workload at the day job, or family crises. This pause is right after mentioning getting back into the swing of things.
Well, yes. On the other hand the day job has gone full crazy right when it was supposed to let up once or twice before. I did send an email asking if she’s okay, no reply, but I don’t read email either when I’m out of margins. Still, it’s not too unlikely that reasons are mostly positive š I think I have her snail mail address somewhere but sending one of those from the other side of the globe might be very slow (I’m in Sweden). Is there someone of us that’s in Australia?
Well yes, I’m in Oz, but I think it would be inappropriate to give me her address.
So I think we will just have to wait and see.
All we can do really I suppose.
*AN* email address is given above in the Contact link. But, yeah – If you have another, different email address, it would be inappropriate to give it out.
You’re right, both of you, we should not share any contact information not shared by herself. I will look into getting her a round-the-globe postcard myself. I have no other email address than the one given. I think it is appropriate for those of us that have any contact information other than that to send a small message of support.
Her Twitter is dark too. Iām seriously worried that she could, you know, not be alive anymore. If thereās anyone with a more direct line to herā¦ phone number etcā¦ donāt post it here obviously, but try to get in contact with her yourself?
Likewise, bookmark still reads Stephen Cawley as author .. its now month past last deadline given, and 1.25 month since last hearing of author
I hope she’s okay. Whatevers happened, I believe that mentioning old names can be very offensive, so please don’t. Her name is Grace.
Teleportality!
D:
So … we come to this point.
I waggled my google-fu and found a newsletter called FrogCall (2003).
This gave me certain information (outdated of course).
I reverse searched some of that data and it led me to more current information (2021).
This gave me a landline and address with a fairly high confidence factor.
The question at this point is do I use it to contact Grace?
I am of two minds at this point.
Grace does not owe me anything and her life is her own, not for me to pry into.
On the other hand, if there is a problem then I would like to see if I could help.
But then again, what could I do to help?
I have absolutely no desire to stress Grace out with the knowledge that a stranger has personal information that she did not volunteer, especially if she is currently dealing with a problem.
Beginning to wish I had not had any success in the search.
TLDR: Got contact info. What do I do now?
Grace, should I just erase the search chain and info, and just wait for you to contact us?
I wouldnāt recommend calling her since you donāt know her outside of web. That would be quite inappropriate, and uncomfortable for her. I meant only that I hoped someone who she *gave* that info to would check on her.
FWIW, agree with RedZone908. The long silence, which apparently is on all her social media, is worrisome. Someone who Grace gave her contact info to should ping her. It’s intrusive otherwise.
Hope Grace is well in any case. The strip can wait; health and whatnot has to take priority.
The only people who *might* have her contact info legitimately would be the people she worked with on Crossoverkill. Mindmistressās Al Schroeder, Fusionās Essaybee, as well as the guys who wrote Captain Perfect, Energize, Majestic Knight. Not that knowing that helps us. Not like we can tweet them and be like āheeeeeey can you check to see if this person you used to work with is still alive?ā But heyā¦ if any of those folks are out there reading thisā¦
Al Schroeder is deceased. Essaybee is the only one I know of that is still regularly posting comics. Agree that those aren’t people we can just contact out of the blue…
Oh geez. Didnāt know Al was dead. Thatās depressing. He was SUCH a good writer.
i would not delete but don’t share either.
if something ever comes up that it might be needed (heaven hoping it never does) then it would not need to be researched again. i have dealt with many unusual situation in past, and have saved a few lives because of this, from intentions of hurting thenselves, to intentions of hurting others. even got fired from one call center because i stopped taking calls and prevented a tragedy my employers said did not involve them and was none of my business.
i just hope nothing like that ever happens again. worst experience i had was person i knew, started showing signs of depression and suicidal tendencies, but their caretakers did not believe me, and said it was not my or their concern. one night they went into their room and part of them never came out, except by coroner. a very low point for me
At this point itās not even about the comic anymore for me. After 12 years of reading her work, I just hope Grace is alive and well.
agreed
This reminds me of what happened with the webcomic Mechagical Girl Lisa ANT back in the day, how the author seemed to have every intention of following through and seemed enthused about continuing the comic, and then just vanished from the face of the internet after a final post talking about continuing in 2008. No one she was involved with in The Crossoverlord could even get in contact with her despite her talking about still wanting to participate in that crossover comic. To this day I worry something terrible happened to Ida, including the possibility of a sudden early death.
Just echoing everyone in that I hope Grace is well. The last time she had a longer pause (not where she was transitioning, this was during the pandemic), I contacted her using the e-mail address provided, and she eventually got in contact with me just to establish she was alive and well. At the time, I half-joking, half-seriously said maybe it was a good idea to have “hit by a bus” procedures in place, that is, if God forbid she had something horrific happen to her like being hit by a bus, to perhaps let someone she trusts to know to update the website to let people know what had happened so that they wouldn’t be left hanging. She agreed it was a good idea but I never knew if she put it in place.
I sincerely hope nothing happened to her and this is just a long pause that will be explained in due time. Grace, if you’re reading this, take all the time you need, but please at least let us know you’re okay or even if you’re NOT okay due to a long-term illness or whatnot. I’ve read Magellan since shortly before Buying The Stairway To Heaven was done as a storyline, so I’ve been around for the highs and lows. I love this comic and would be saddened if it came to an end, whether by you deciding to end it on your own terms (18 years is a hell of a run, few webcomics EVER get to that length) or God forbid because of a deceased author, but I’ll understand so long as some closure on the matter is brought in some form or another.
Hi all, I just wanted to let u know that Grace is ok and hopefully sheāll be in touch soon š
Not to be an alarmist, but I’ve not heard from Grace for a while now either; having a couple emails unanswered. I would like to think that I’ve just been annoying and Grace has more pressing concerns than being bothered by me.
If the situation is worse than that, though, I think we may wish to begin making back-ups of the Magellanverse webpages (either on Archive.org as a community effort, or at least on personal hard drives). Best case scenario, we do some redundancy work that Grace could use as an offsite back-up in the event of another hard drive failure. Worst case scenario, we can make sure that Grace’s amazing work on Magellan remain available even if this domain lapses from non-payment.
Sooner would be better, just since we have no idea what sort of timeline we may be working with in that latter scenario.
Best wishes to all; especially Grace.
How do we use Archive.org? Iāve been worrying about the domain lapse myself
apparently:
go to web.archive.org (the web. seems to be necessary)
enter the URL of the page you want to save in the big field at the top of the page
press the save page link at the lower right
